Ikea catalogues are needing delivery people.

  • It does sound like it would work out well below minimum wage. For anyone interested, I've seen loads of adverts for people to deliver Yellow Pages - the pay is probably similar.

I can't do it just now as I don't have a car but would have been some much needed extra cash :-(

Be mindful that you will be self-employed and responsible for paying your own tax & NI and declaring earnings to Tax Credits (and to DWP or your local Council if in receipt of any benefits)

Not a great rate, you've got to be dropping one on average every 40 seconds to make minimum wage.

Work smart and find the easiest way of doing the job. You're being paid to post them, not carry them about, so aim to spend more time and energy doing the former, and less on the latter.

What I used to do when I was doing phone books was drive up and down the road dropping a bundle on the kerb every 6th house, then park at the end of the road and walk a round up one side and back down the other posting them.

This method gets far easier if you are sharing a round because one can drive the car, one can drop the bundles, then you park halfway up the road, one of you walks a round on the top of the street, one on the bottom of it.

As far as moving them around goes, it's not about volume and how many "will fit" in your car, don't forget, these things are heavy. Most cars are rated to carry a third of a tonne. Very roughly speaking, a metre tall pallet of phone books weighs a tonne, so three even trips (not two good loads, then what's left, that's a futile plan because you're still going three times). When I did phone books, I used to pick them up with a Transit, makes loading easier if there's a forklift available, because they can just chuck a pallet in, then take half a day's out at a time in something smaller and more economical.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

Don't forget a pocket full of dog chews for all the new four legged friends that you'll meet!

Remember to greet them as a friend rather than as someone who's afraid of them. If in doubt though, don't open the gate.

I just did a couple of routes delivering the Thomson's Local at 7.7p/book and I was able to average about 100 doors an hour so well over minimum wage.
I have a couple of satchels that I was able to load up with 50 in each so I could get round without having to go back to the car an fill up too often, it also helped that I knew the area so I was able to park in a central location and do 3 or 4 trips without having to move the car.

The thing is with phone books, everyone gets one so you are doing whole streets and estates. Easy to park up and take a load on foot. I used to deliver the free weekly newspapers this way.

Ikea catalogues you might just have one to post on a single street before having to drive to another street.

    What??

This thread is about Ikea catalogue delivery. I know I don't get one and no one I know gets one. So I assume only subscribed customers get them.
