Travel republic chaos ....

Ive booked a hotel in turkey thru travel republic using my credit card. I contacted the hotel direct as I wanted to know if the rooms
had wifi. It then came to light that the hotel is no longer accepting booking from travel republic so I've contacted travel republic ( who funnily didn't mention it !!) saying that because they are now unable to provide the hotel that I want I would like a refund and I got an email today stating they were going to charge me 20% cancellation charge!!.
I have sent a strongly worded email stating that I booked a certain hotel they are unable to now forfil the contract as the hotel is not accepting my booking so it's null and void.
I'm pretty certain of my position they are stating their contract is with another supplier but I've stated that isn't of my concern as my contract is with them !!!.
Please can someone confirm I'm actually correct , I can't believe their cheek to be fair .....

If you booked a specific hotel with TR then they are not providing what the promsied and therefore you should be able to cancel. They may have a term saying they will provide alternative sbut it depend show it is worded and presented.
Can you clarify if you bought a package from TR or whether you just booked via TR?0 -
Did travel republic actually tell you the hotel isn't available or amend the holiday in any way? Your post reads as though you cancelled the holiday off your own back on the information the hotel supplied rather than TR actually confirming anything0
-
Have travel republic told you that they cannot provide the accomodation you have booked?
The arrangement they have with their supplier should be of no concern to you.
Has the hotel confirmed that you will not be staying there if you have booked with TR?
It could well be that either:
a) no further bookings from TR are being taken, but yours is OK,
b) it is merely a temporary arrangement while TR pay their bills, or somesuch.
If you cancel the booking with TR, it could well cost you.
Until you can confirm that you will not be allowed to stay at the hotel you have booked, then you will be taking the risk by cancelling.
Of course it may be that you won't know the answer to that until you arrive at the hotel.0 -

That reads to me as if they are sourcing availability for that hotel from a different supplier than they previously did. Hence, your booking will stand, you still have a reservation at that hotel.
It is also worth noting that many agents do not send guest details through until close to the date of travel, so the hotel may not yet have you confirmed as staying, but you/ the agent have been allocated a room.0 -
Hi,
I booked the room through tr as I wanted the particular hotel.
The hotel has put in writing that I do not have a reservation as they no longer taking booking from tr . So what I'm guessing is I would arrive with my child in tow and they would dump me in whatever hotel had space which I'm not happy to do.
So I'm stuck the hotel are saying I've not got a booking and tr who have my money are refusing a refund even though they can't provide what I've booked.
Have sent them an email tonight giving them 24 hr to return my money as they can not provide what I have paid for.as I paid for it on my credit card would there be any recourse with them ? .0 -
You haven't answered the question ... have TR told you there is no booking for you with that specific hotel?
If no then all you have is circumstantial evidence from the hotel itself that they do not take any direct TR bookings. But TR may not be booking direct (rather using another agent) thus the room may not yet be allocated to YOUR name but IS booked).
You may be on shaky ground trying to cancel and invoke a chargeback/section 75 claim.0 -
Just to note, TR wont have a booking with the hotel...
TR use a broker, so someone like Lowcostbeds, or lowcostholidays (the broker side), or another firm that deal in Turkey is:
Holiday Brokers (i know as i just come back from Turkey) and booked with TR.
On the confirmation/voucher u got from Travelrepublic, it will say the name of the broker:
""""
Accommodation Provider(s): Holiday Brokers
(Travel Republic acts as an agent for the above named accommodation provider.)
Accommodation Provider Ref(s): 8333761
Thats taken from my booking, so you would have something similar.... Then ask the hotel if that agent has a booking ???0 -

No you don't. They are not in breach of contract nor is there anything solid to say they will be.
The simple fact of the matter is you booked a holiday, you then cancelled the holiday. You will not get out of this without penalty.0 -
Hi
Travel Republic has asked to be able to give a response. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the forum.
Hi Londonbabe73,
My name is Sophie and I work for Travel Republic. I’m very sorry to hear about your experience with us and would like to get to the bottom of what has happened to your booking. If a hotel occasionally isn’t available we will always offer an alternative which is equal quality to your original booking or offer a full refund, without admin charge. We do act as an agent for hotel suppliers which could be the reason as to why the hotel did not recognise bookings from Travel Republic. If you could email me on community@travelrepublic.co.uk with your booking reference and lead passenger name I can look into getting this resolved.
Sophie
