Sky cabling needs updating.

Ok, so i've discovered my sky signal goes when my cable gets moved slightly and it's a pain to get back. I guess it's the copper wiring after 13 years, it's looking a bit sorry for itself.
I have a basic Sky subscription and if I was getting someone in, i'd probably upgrade to Sky+.
Is it best to get Sky to come out, or is an independent dealer adequate and what sort of time of year is the best place to get an offer? I don't really want to pay out through the nose.
I'll go and see what Sky are offering at the moment. Maybe I could phone and baulk at the installation fee and they may reduce it? Has this worked before?
Thanks.

Dunno about offers but an independant would cost a lot more than you'd spend on up-grading to Sky+.The installer would have to fit another cable so if you ask him to run what we call "Shotgun" cable instead of an extra single cable, then you could divert the existing cable to another room & bung your old box in there & use it as a free sat.0

I thought it might be more expensive independently.
Sounds like a good idea for the extra cable. I'll mention it when we do this.
Sky have an offer at the moment of a free box and free insallation for existing customers plus a £100 M &S voucher, if we take the HD Pack....looking for the catch...0 -
Phone up tech and tell them of your problem. Tell them that you will cancel and they will put you to cancellations. When you get through to them say:
I would like a service call for £15 for a full de-installation and re-installation. I have been told that I am entitled to this.
If they say they can't do it don't argue, put in your 31 days notice. If they ask where you have heard this say "a sky engineer". If they accept your 31 days, ask them to enter a note stating why and have them read it back to you. The full de-install, re-install will replace all your cabling. My user name is SkyInsider... I worked for Sky quite some time ago, also worked for Virgin Media and a few other tech companies as a consultant. All views are my own0 -

I'll give it a go. Thanks. It's been 13 years, so they may go for it....possibly not, but I can ask.0 -
Maybe it's just a badly fitted 'F' plug?

Exactly, it's an intermittent poor contact, almost certainly one of the connectors-have you just tried refitting or tightening them?
No reason at all to think the cable itself has deteriorated, that would most likely mean a permanently poor signal. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I haven't tried, but I can do.
When I lift the cable up when it becomes intermittent, it's nowhere near the connection ( a good couple of metres from the actual connection to the box) that's why I was thinking it was the cable.0 -
In that case simply cut off the damaged section and replace it with an extension cable.0
