    All the time....

    ....??

Yes, us too, we always use back packs as hand luggage.
Echoing the others... why? Is there something in particular that's concerning you about this?

Yes, I've used backpacks for years no problem.

No problems with using said backpacks, I was just curious, as it seems a good alternative and does leave you with free hands so to speak once the other luggage has been checked in. Thanks for all feed back.

Sorry, no idea how many litres, but they have been within the size restrictions for cabin baggage on every flight we've taken. We've had them at least 7 or 8 years.

Exactly. They leave your hands free, are light before you start packing them and can be useful for excursions/day trips etc during the trip.

    Thanks anyway.

Ive got a 35 litre which I go backpacking with and I am so tempted it would pass without having to pay extra for it, but of course I don't wanna turn up and just try it on a whim  Could be an expensive test!

Even when I check in a suitcase I usually take a small daypack with me as cabin luggage and to use while I'm away. As long as it fits in the airlines allowable dimensions then I don't see why there would be a problem.

I don't like large carry-on bags anyway. I'd much rather dump the case at check-in than have to lug it around the airport - assuming the baggage fees zero or reasonable.
