I no longer have that account in question which is why they asked for my current bank details. I also checked the address that the letter needed to be sent to and it is fully legitimate.

So, I am not a derp, nor a derpina and slightly offended!

    Fair do's. :T

I would still be contacting them as to why it is taking so long to pay the funds. By phone in calling into a branch.

I received a letter of this kind at the start of October, I was due £690 plus £87 interest, the letter asked me for my bank details as I closed my Natwest account in 2007. I supplied these the same day and my money went in yesterday. If you read the letter it does say that the refund can take up to 28 days.

I had another account with them which I also incurred charges on so I will be ringing them ASAP to investigate if I am due a further refund! ;)
  • I had one of these letters come through my door earlier this week, stating I was owed £443.89 + £92.22 in interest.

I should state at this point that in the 6 years I banked with Natwest, the amount of charges (all the same type, either failed direct debit or unauthorised overdraft charges) I had would easily have totaled four or five times that amount (crazy, I know).

Now, I'm currently on a debt management plan through Payplan and Natwest (who I do not bank with anymore) are one of my creditors. The total amount left outstanding to them totals £0.14 more than the figure they are refunding me. Leaves me raising my eyebrow, thinking that they probably owe me a lot more and are just refunding enough for me to pay them back and then closing off my account.

Is there any basis to this or am I just being overly skeptical?

The amount is probably correct. The charges being refunded are those charged on accounts which should not have been eligible for charges (savings accounts).

If you ever had direct debits or standing orders set up on a Natwest account (especially First Reserve accounts) then the charges would be any charges applied to that account.
