Sorry to appear thick here, but how can you compare the two offerings?
One is for Irish customers, and one is for UK customers.
UK customers can't get an Irish add on, and Irish customers can't get a UK add on.
Unless I'm missing something, this seems to be a bit of a non-question?

Quite easily, I just did :rotfl:

While they are from the same company offering different services in similar markets, one is twice as much data for 25% less. It's just frustrating given the price increase (per day to be able to use a small amount of data) for roaming to UK customers that the deal has in fact improved for Irish customers (great for them!).

You can pick up Vodafone PAYG sim cards on eBay, which might be the way forward.

    hmmm....

You asked which was the better deal, but you can't make a direct comparison as you can't but both products in the UK, or in Ireland for that matter.

If you had asked a different question, such as
"how can Vodafone justify offering 25mb for £2 to UK customers, but offer €2 for 50mb to Irish customers for what is essentially the same product", I might have answered differently.

I most definately can see your point, and if all you are going to use the sim for is data - then try to get a hold of a VF IE sim. I'm not sure if they need to be registered though, in which case this would probably have to be an Irish address, and also I believe that the initial activation would need to be on the 'home network'.

I'm pretty sure that they'll have thought of most things to make it as difficult as possible to buy cheaper 'overseas' products in all the markets that they operate!

Yes, sorry, you're quite right. I could have worded my OP better.
  • I have an Irish SIM (Meteor not Vodafone).

I walked into the shop, gave the man 5 Euros, walked out with a SIM.

No registration needed to use it.

Excellent data deal as well for use on holiday in Ireland.
  • I thought under EU law Vodafone would not be allowed to prevent sales to the UK. Although if anyone is in Ireland and could send me a vodafone sim (am happy to pay any costs) please send me a PM. :)

IMHO by the time you've paid for the trip to Dublin to pick up the sim, your savings have been wiped out, although a nice pint of Guinness can be had on the way ;)

It's possible to order free SIM cards from most of the Irish networks for delivery to an address outside Ireland. This is possible because Ireland doesn't have postcodes (except for simple numbers in Dublin), meaning that the address fields are free text when you order the SIM on the network's web site. You just have to be clever about how you enter a non-Irish address. I haven't tried with Vodafone, but it worked with O2 and Three.

However, I don't think that Vodafone give SIM cards for free unless you're porting your number from another network.
