That sausage-meat can be made into a pastry. Just add some herbs to it, or stuffing-mix and roll some shortcrust pastry around it.

It seems from your last post that you are a great deal more resourceful than you thought. Well done!

It's funny but I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen any posts from you in a long time and I was wondering how you and our family were doing, so welcome back.

Im anoyed with myself for not realising my store cupboard and freezers got so low.hubby thourght he was getting paid friday buts its actually monday:eek:
I am an os er so should have all the answers.
but looking at random ingrediants and now not so sure?
pack 2plain naan bread-to make naan bread pizza
    we have cartons of passatta.
I have onion bajis and few stray sausage rolls in oven as snacky foods.-thourght be snacky later.

Down to my last loaf bread which has to do brekkies and sandwiches for next few days
    i have butter
    half block cheese
If you get some eggs and milk you could make a quiche

low on milk but should eb able to afford milk.
i have 2bread packet mixes-year out date-are they ok to use? Yes, but I would add a little yeast to give them a boost
is 7g yeast enough to make bread? as have bread flour. Yes or make your own yeast free flour tortillas and use them as a pizza base or wraps
    http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/1864/flour-tortilla-wraps.aspx
is 7g enough to make a pizza base as normally use 14g. Yes
no eggs...... 15 medium eggs are £1.25 in Aldi
found a chicken and leek sauce packet mix-wondering if be ok over the frozen broccoli/cauli thats in the freezer? or should i make a cheese sauce from that? You could make a risotto type dish:
pre-cook the rice ala Jamie O (10 mins on the hob) then put into a dish with the defrosted and drained veg ( if you have a tin of sweetcorn drain and us a little in the dish as well Aldi has a large tin for 35p and the leftovers could be used to make sweetcorn fritters) if you had some streaky bacon bits or pepperoni slices (both 79p a pack) you could add one of them to the rice and veg as well. Stir everything in gently. Make up the chicken and leek sauce quite thinly and pour over the rice then put in the oven until the rice has absorbed all of the sauce.

    i have flour
only 1 small 7g packet yeast
enough pasta to make one meal Use the passata add some veggies and bacon bits or pepperoni slices - luverly
    no potatoes.
small amount oven chips-enough for kids maybe.
I would buy large white potatoes and make HM wedges or Jacket potatoes.

3packs supernoodles-kids/hubby-dont like:( Don't use the spice sachet that comes with the noodles add a couple of chicken oxo cubes or veg ones instead. or use the noodles in a pasta like dish.
2boil in bag rice-have stock so thourght savoury rice with frozen veg chucked in. see risotto

loads frozen plums could i defrost and make plum crumble as have icecream. Sounds nice

    try this site - http://myzerowaste.com/2011/01/eggless-sponge-pudding-frugal-war-recipes-wednesday/

maybe couple onions-could make a onion soup.
Onion tart tatin ( ignore the mushroom an walnut just use the basic recipe)
    http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/333631/onion-walnut-and-mushroom-tarte-tatin

we have loads crackers ......use instead of bread
I have half jar jam....... eggless sponge or use on crackers
porridge oats.porridge, hm granola or museli, flapjacks or twinks

    1packet angel delight
maybe they wont feel so deprived if have dessert.

cooking last 2sausages now as thourght could slice up , add to pizza , mix in pasta definitely
could do a rissotto as have 1bag rissotto rice
stock make a rice pudding add some dried fruit if you have some as well

i have 1pack paxo-red lentils could attempt paxo burgers again serve with frozen veg and have some bisto. lentil dahl
frozen veg have green beans, small amount sweetcorn, peppers, cauli, broccoli, possiblly mushrooms lots lurking at bottom of my chest freezer.

I have one pack plain instant noodles which be good if have some stir fry veg.

few bags crisps left-for packed lunches
running low on squash but have enough for least next day then they can drink water.

fruit bow-just 1 apple left. make a caramel and chop up the apple pour over the caramel and pop on top of the porridge for kids brekkie - I used to do this when my 2 where little and even though they are in their teens/twenties they still ask for this as a special treat

I have a tin of butter beans wondering if could add passaatta and chuck in oven to make homemade baked beans? baked beans are actually haricot beans but you could use butter beans using a b.b sauce recipe
i have taco -seasoning mix-but no meat.
    I have box couscous tabouleh

have dried rasiens and currents so could so some kind of dessert.

thourght about flapjacks but dont want to use too much butter as only got 250g tub and dont wnat to run out sugaras long as I have my coffee I can function.

Thourght i sense check here and see what you guys come up with.
    we 2adults
    2kids age 6 and 2
baby 15months so doesnt eat hiuge deal prefers to chuck in all over the floor and still breastfed.

Hi byatt-im still alive just very tired and hectic as usual.

well we currently all sat at table eating yummy lunch of jacket poatoes with cheese and salad. the sun is out,

my babies been enjoying the huge plums that were in veg box,

fruit bowl is now nicly full.

they have delivered cabbage which hubby hates.
last year i chopped it up fine and added it to onion ,might do same.?

anything tasty things to do with cabbage?
im sure i did a cabbage bake on atkins many years ago.
might have to hunt through old cookbooks.

also have courgette and broad beans-hubby hates most veg

guessing some kind stew with the beans and maybe courgette quiche?

    do need more butter though.

Hi Gailey good to see you back, have a good holidaywhen you go.Its suprising how you can streeetch things when necessary isn't it.I think we have all been where you were and I can remember once sitting working out how many slices of bread I had on a Wednesday to last four of us until Friday payday (there was too much month left before the end of the month :):))
Still with luck and a dollop of ingenuity you will get through OK I think.
I used to make Odds and S*ds pie which was basically a pastry flan baked blind with anything I could bung in it to fill it up,beg grated cheese egg all mixed together with mash spuds on the top and finished off under the grill to brown.I still keep a small stash of sardines and pilchards in the cupboards as they will add a bit of flavour with sliced tomato's on top and a smidgen of grated cheese.
When I was brassic I would try to get the kids to think up ways to use up what we had in the cupboard and invent meals. They thought it was a giggle and we all survived without too much trouble
Good luck and well done for your streeetching of stuff
  • Awh honey you are doing great.
I would use the sausagemeat to make a sausage plait. You can use oil to make up the pastry if you can't spare the butter.
The lentils would make a great lentil stew - I use onions, garlic, carrots, celery (if you have it) tin tomatoes, 150g lentils, herbs, seasoning, 150 g lentils and a 500ml stock. Fry veg until softened, add other ingredients except salt and pepper. Cook for about 30 mins. You may have to add more stock. Season to taste. Yummy!
    Good luck.
  • GAILEY - a nice thing to do with cabbage is blanch it in boiling water and drain it really well. Chop up an apple and an onion and mix it into the cabbage with some dried sage or mixed herbs. Then you need some sausagemeat. Grease an ovenproof casserole (it needs to have a lid) put in a third of the cabbage, then a layer of half the sausage meat, then more cabbage, sausage, then the rest of the cabbage. Season it well and dot it with some butter put on the lid and do a long slow cook on a really low oven setting and it's delicious. My DH loves it and he isn't a greens fan. Hope that helps Lyn.
