Looking for new ISP

I'm trying to find a new ISP and telephone provider (currently with O2) and I've searched the internet but every single one seems to have more bad than good reviews. I don't live in a particularly good area for speed and that is my main concern. I was with BT but over time the speed got so slow it was worse than dial up. I then transferred to O2 which had great speed, but their customer service has been rubbish and most recently they have not bothered to resolve an issue with their technical support advising they will sort it asap if I sign up for another contract - I don't think so!!
So what websites can I trust to give me an honest review of the ISP and telephone providers out there? All those I've been to so far give the lot only 2 - 3 stars out of 5 which doesnt give me much confidence.
Thanks

Check http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search and let us know what is available on your exchange.
the problem with customer reviews is that most people will report bad experiences, rather than good. It's not always wise to base a decision on customer reviews on a website.0 -
I know most will report bad rather than good experiences but how else do I select a decent provider other than going on the experiences of others?
I'm reluctant to get myself into another 12 month contract with a company which turn out to be dire, but PAYG mobile broadband is far too costly and speed is really bad where I live.
Most of the larger companies are available by me - sky, BT, talk talk etc. - but I feel like I'm just selecting straws and hoping I get the right one!0 -
So did you check what ISP's are available on your exchange?
Post them up and we may be able to help.0 -
BT, AOL, O2/Be, Sky, Talk Talk, C&W, Tiscali
Was with BT previously but changed to O2 when their service went from 2.5 meg to 0.5 meg.0 -
Out of those I would only recommend Sky, provided it's their LLU service and not their connect service (BT Wholesale Broadband).0

Yes they were listed as LLU service providers. Might give them a call and see what they can offer. Thanks for your help.0

No probs. I have Sky's LLU service and it's very good. They beat BT and O2 (who I had previously) hands down.0
