Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 19th June. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning
HH - Belated Happy Anniversary to you both xx
Well y'day at the pub was interesting we had a coach load of "naturists" arrive....they were dressed but proceeded to coat themselves allover in suncream in the back field :rotfl: (the kitchen window looks out onto said field). It made us giggle....
I filled my car with Power steering fluid lastnight, started the engine and it poured onto the floor, so have rang BIL and Dnephew will fix it (hopefully) this weekend :T.
Today - Weather is faberoony, Have dropped DH to work all kids still in bed, have swept the floor, just about to tiptoe into a shower, drop kids to school, then up the pub for another shift:T, Tea tongiht is BBQ.Mr S's is delivering at 4-6 TG we've no food .
Have great days xx
and don't forget suncream.....

Morning BB & all who cross/follow
BB I hope you are enjoying working in the pub.
Off to work soon, yesterday I turned 7 manky bananas into a huge banana loaf, anything to try & keep everyone's spirits up.
Currently the buzzwords at work are 'Work smarted not harder' this means work harder as more work is coming your way, & 'Moving on' this means those higher up have c0cked up & are now pretending they haven't!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all,
BB lol at the naturists, bet that was funny to see.
Looks like a nice say here again, I am off to work, got loads of washing done and dried yesterday, its sitting in its piles waiting for its owners to take it upstairs.
DD got offered another job yesterday, honestly they are like buses wait years for one, and then several come along at once, this one was a summer job teaching boating skills etc. to kids with learning difficulties, sounds like a great job, but its just to far away from us.
Not sure whats for tea, I think its an omelette, although there is 1/2 a S + K pie if OH wants it.
OK have good days all xx0 -
Morning all, sunny and dry here today, hope it's as nice as yesterday. I had a fabulous day at Weston with my schoolkids, played on the beach and walked to the new pier, they loved it and didn't want to go home. Back to the classroom today. Hugs to all in need BB hope you enjoy the pub, that's a job I did when I was a student and I loved it. HH bet you can think of a few buzz words of your own!!!!!! RR Hope DD finds a job
she likes.
Have a good day all.:)£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund

Ouch bb hope in that piccie he's made up and not for real.
I think the only way i csn work smarter is to say no and people to listen. I am zOnked! Had long meeting with colleague yesterday and we agreed a lot of our problems lie withlack of support which i suspect is a resourcing issue. Have meeting re whole issue tomorrow with someone from smt.
On a happier note garden looking brill. We'd let it get out of control  then heard friend's husband is a gardener. He came round 6 hours monday and 4 hours tuesday. 15 black sacks filled with weeds, now all emptied into my and several neighbours' brown bins which get emptied today :T and 14 sacks saved for later use :money: ( one was ripped by a rose branch so reluctantly threw that one away)
Out tonight friend is 57. It's bible study night and last week he was asked to lead the story of feeding the 5000 so i have got him a ciabatta bread mix and a tin of sardines :rotfl: as we have our bible study in the pub i shall also buy him a pint :beer:MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Morning All!
Sunny and warm here, though they say tomorrow will be awful again:o
Had a lovely carvery lunch yesterday with my MS friends.
OH is doing up my kitchen, and we wanted a fridge freezer from Curry's. They have stopped doing it, so managed to find one on ebay which was an ex-demo model. Our local caurry's manager reckoned he couldn't do it for the same price, so ordered it, and it's coming today. Best of all, saved myself £200!:T
Approved food order and two parcels coming today.
Got some left over chicken in the fridge, so will do a bit of stir fry tonight I think.
DundeeDoll It's always better to illustrate stories with props, kids love it! When I was a teacher and doing WWII, I always put a weeks' rations on a dinner plate to explain how little people had to eat. The kids used to say "That's not bad for a day Mrs Deadman" and then I'd shock them by saying "No, that's for a week!" Really brought it home to them.
Have a good day all!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Its DD last day of college today, she is going back in Sept but wont be with her friends as they are on a different course. So she is having 4 friends over tonight, they are sleeping in our summer house and having pizza for dinner. They are all boys but are a nice bunch.
Need to have a google later, have been invited to a charity garden party on saturday and have to wear a bonnet, there is a prize for th best one, not bothered about winning but want to look like Ive made an effort, trouble is I am not artistic or crafty in anyway :rotfl:
Well best get going, have a great day all.x0 -
Morning everyone
Aunt's funeral has been confirmed as 29 June, unfortunately the Wake venue Aunt requested is not available so my parents have booked another - which realistically is much nicer - we're being given a private room and are not just going to be in the bar. On a sour note, one of the my cousins has "started" - he's been pushing to get into my Aunt's home (he's got a rather nasty girlfriend who is a real money grabber!) and he's upset both my parents - this cousin seemed to be under the impression he was the Executor and dad had the horrible job of telling him that he wasn't!! My Aunt's express wishes are that his girlfriend is not allowed over her threshold or at anything to do with the funeral - just hoping she doesn't turn up and start trouble - that's exactly what I'm expecting. Families are so difficult some times aren't they? Spoke briefly to my elder sister last night as we're deciding what to do about flowers as Aunt loved flowers and always went to nan and grandads graves to put flowers on every week, until she became to ill. We think we may send one from us adults and one from the children - it's going to be a really difficult day as there's not many people left in the family and she didn't have that many friends - so we've worked out that they will only be 20-25 people in total - I find that really hard to cope with and so sad.
Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Bright, sunny, warm and clear here this morning. DH up and off to work at stupid early. Washing already on the line.
Dinner last night was smoked sausage pasta with creme fraiche and fresh baguette, LO apple pie or yoghurts etc for those that had room. Remembered to get the joint out to defrost overnight - that's now in the fridge ready to be cooked later, will do a proper roast as we haven't had one for a while. I'm expecting my friend to come over for coffee and a chat after school.
Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Hugs NMLC its the aftermath that always seems so hard, especially when out of the wookwork come the worms IYKWIM.My condolences to you all I hope it all goes off peacefully for you
B.Bird I once worked in a pub years ago and the landlord was talked into doing a 'streak' across the field opposite to raise so cash for a local charity .We we filled him full of gin to get him feeling brave, and he scuttled out from the back door of the pub starkers and climbed into the field and started to do his swift gallop across not knowing that a large number of the lads from the pubs footie team had lined their cars up so when he was half way across they all switched their headlights on and there was John in all his glory in the middle of the field floodlit:) the air was blue but bless him he did take it in good part and raised quite a bit for charity as the customers were laughing so much they thought it was well worth a quid each.It was hard work at times behind the jump but a lot of fun.
Well I have the day off from the school run as my DD has a leui(sp) day off so I am going to have a bit of a potter around today and do some painting in the morning(I am renovateing an old chair thats seen better days) and make some scones this afternoon.Weather is gorgeous at the moment ,so nice to see the sunshine even though it makes the weeds in my garden grow another foot
Take care all and have a great day whatever you are doing

Morning :hello:
We have a pair of doves visiting our garden. They've been around for a while (a couple of years, I assume it's the same ones?) but this year they spend a lot of time sitting on the chicken fence. Every afternoon they mingle with the chickens and share the foodI can get within 2' of them before they get nervous and back off. I'm determined to have them eating out of my hand before long.
The strawberry plants are useless this year, they've not grown at all, though one has managed to send out a pathetically weak runnerI think I'll give up on them and start again.
I couldn't do the new socket, we haven't got any wire. I might drill through and use an extension lead instead. The trouble with temporary solutions in this house, is that they end up being permanent *rolls eyes*
On the plus side, the silicone glue arrived so the door is fixed and the oven is back in use :T We bought a connector kit for the water butts (old oak barrels), we didn't want to lose any water and were surprised at how quickly they filled up. Now they're connected, the rain has stopped...............Bulletproof0 -
in haste
BB - naturists! There are some bits you really don't want burnt!
Dundee - envious of bible group
Hester - thought of writing a sitcom?
nmlc - hugs - so hard - and funerals are horrific for the money grabbers and the sniping. Hope all goes well for you, and I think your Aunt would be proud of you, you seem to be behaving with dignity
No os really today, except meal in slow cooker, as really need to sort out the clothes today, or make a start - sorting, ironing etc including the huge vast quantity that I need to get rid of. Some only fit for rags. That will take my time
hugs to all.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0
