Hollister Employee Asked for My PIN

I recently had to deal with Hollister customer services (who are based in the USA) over a complaint I had about exchanging an order.

In order to progress the complaint I had to provide further information, here's what they said in the email exactly:

"Mike,

Thank you for contacting Hollister Co. We have reviewed the picture of the receipt and invoice. We are going to need more information from you, please hit us back with the credit card number, order number and pin number used for this purchase.

Deserae
Customer Service
Hollister Co."

Isn't it fraudulent for them to solicit my PIN? They quickly tried to sweep it under the rug when a different rep replied after I questioned it saying:

"We apologize for the confusion and request of your information. We do not need your pin number to further assist you. Also, we do not advise you to provide your credit card number through email. We would advise you to contact us at 866.426.1285 with the reference #xxxx-xxxxx to provide us with your credit card number."

I want to take this complaint to a higher level because another person might have handed over their information without realizing the danger.

Are there any thoughts on what actions to take? Particularly considering this customer service is all based in the US.

Thanks for your help.

They can't really do much with just a card number and pin. Even cloning a bank card would need more information than this and without a card the pin is rendered useless.

They ask for a "pin number used for this purchase", since it reads as though you ordered on line, it obviously wasn't the card pin number you used to place the order - so i'd be asking what "pin" number they are referring to?

To be honest there isn't really much you can do about it that would have any kind of impact on it.

Which Hollister site did you order from? The UK one or the US one?

Could they mean the CVV number?

Then maybe consider The Better Business Bureau.

I would have thought that as they have now backtracked the CS advisor would have brought it up based on their internal govenrance. If not do as wealdroam says and report to the BBB
