It's not because you bought it from Germany, Ikea sizes are all continental.

    hello timdeegan

sorry can you clarify? what i meant was i thought our german mattress would fit the ikea bed because they are both 'european size,' is this the case? we weren't even aware before this post that there was a difference between uk and european sizes.

oh and maybe i'm being a bit thick here but is germany the continent? or is that just spain etc. lol i am not good at geography! :o

As far as I know your German mattress probably would fit an Ikea bed. These are the continental sizes:

    Single: 90cm x 190cm
    Single Long: 90cm x 200cm
    Single Extra Long: 90cm x 220cm
    Euro Double 140 x 200 cm
    Euro Double Long 140 x 220cm
    Euro King 160 x 200 cm
    Euro King Long 160 x 220 cm
    Euro Super King 200 x 200 cm
Euro Super King Long 200 x 220 cm
  • Hi all, I bought a bed from Ikea to a while back and it was such bad quality I had to get rid of it. A friend pointed me in the direction of a company called Go Modern (www.gomodern.co.uk) who also sell European sized beds.

It's not instant like Ikea as the furniture is all made to order, but it's definitely worth the wait. I still have one of my ikea mattresses but didn't have any trouble finding a second one. Just google 'Euro Mattresses' and you'll find plenty of places that sell them.

Most UK mattress manufacturers will make european sizes. So if you go to an independent seller who has a good relationshp with the manufacturers then you shouldn't have a problem getting continental sizes.

I don't know what your budget is but we got a new bed just over a year ago. Its a Sealey (or Sealy), anyway its got a built in (on top) memory foam latex pad mattress topper type thing & its really nice. It was about £800, but is a king size. It really is fab. Oh & its got a sprung base.
My sister has a rest assured (I think) & that seems really nice too.

Don't skimp on it, pay the most you can afford & you will never regret it.

My dad recently changed his silent night bed and he has had it for just coming up 20 years with no problems. Maybe you were just unlucky unless there not made like they used to be.

Hit the nail on the head I think.
  • Maybe its just luck but Ive had my Ikea bed for 6 years, its fantastic, the mattress is great, and thats with not just sleeping haha.none of the cheapest slats ever broke and if thats a problem you can always go for the more expensive options at ikea 10 pound slats might just not last 20 years, apart from that, I love their beds and matresses.abt sizes, UK is the "odd" one, everywhere else has the ikea sizes in europe
