Living near Electricity Pylons

What are peoples thoughts on this?

We have had an offer accepted on a house. Down the same street someone has a pylon in there front garden.

now the house we have had an offer accepted on is about 150-200 metres away and no cables run over the house/garden.

I am just unsure if we are a safe enough distance away, i know there has been studies etc but i am very cautious

any help would be greatly appreciated

I doubt it will be very high voltage if it's in their garden. 150 meters is a pretty good distance away in my mind. I never read any reports or studies on the effects, but that would seem a reasonable clearence anyway, even at high voltage to me.

Maybe if its near by you can take a pic of the pylon for a better opinion.

To be honest, more important than the studies of whether or not it poses a health hazard is whether you can deal with it mentally. By asking the question, there are obviously doubts in your mind - and the last thing you want is to find that you can't enjoy your new home because those doubts just won't go away...

This is true, but it seems the OP's problem is not doubts at this moment, rather a lack of knowledge.

If it's not high voltage cabling, then in my mind it's no more of a concern than the cabling running THROUGH the house.

I am not in doubt about the house, to be honest its nowhere near visible to our potential house, its, as lorian says

    A - lack f knowledge
B - concern that it could affect the future sale of the property.

We viewed a property that had a pylon about a hundred meters behind the house, personally what put us off making an offer (it was a lovely house, really nice), was the thought of going out into out garden and have to stare at that ugly thing every day..

If you dont mind living with the pylon near by Im sure its safe (these things have been running over peoples houses for many years without any proof (I think) of them doing any harm).

It might be worth keeping the reselling in mind when you buy, alot of people wont buy a house if there is a pylon near by.

We were able to see one out of our flat window it was quite a beast and we nicknamed it Barry (!!!) to be honest it never bothered me but when we moved and I realised how nice the views are without one.

I don't think i'd want to be that close to one again to be honest and it would put me off buying a house close to one.
House purchase completed 6th December whole process took 4 months.

Hang in there everyone it is worth it

I viewed a house some years ago now that was next to (30 metres at most) one of the HUGE pilons (in Aylesbury if anyone is wondering) and during the 15 minute viewing I developed a cracking headache that it took me the rest of the day to get rid off. I could hear the humming from the power lines as soon as I got out of the car and gorgeous as the house was there was no way I could live there - constant headaches and that humming day in and day out? No thanks!

The other day I got a cracking headache while driving in my car. I took 1000mg of paracetamol and a large glass of water. I didn't sell the car. Today when I drove it I was fine!

Depends what you are talking about. I think you'll find that the ones where there are concerns are the massive metal ones which carry high voltage cables. http://society.guardian.co.uk/cancer/story/0,,1498797,00.html. I doubt one of these is in your neighbours front garden.

Do you just mean a wooden electricity pole?

Lets at least work out what you are looking at. Does it look more like A or B?

    This is A

    and This is B

If it looks like neither, please scroll through these and pick one that looks similar, if possible
