Faulty iPad from Argos...

Hi guys,
Just wondering if you wouldn't mind giving me a bit of advice.
For fathers day OH and the kids bought me an iPad from Argos. I took it out the box and started to use it as normal, installed my apps used Facebook read a book. It wasn't until 2 days later that I tried the camera.
It doesn't work :(.
I tried to take it back to Argos but they've told me to contact apple as they might offer a replacement. They also told me that if apple refer me back to them then itll be sent away for repair. I don't see how this would be fair as for all I know the camera didn't work when they sold it to me. By the time it come back I would technically have what amounts to a reconditioned iPad that I've paid full price for.
Are Argos well within their rights to do this?

How long ago was it actually purchased? Did they buy it just before or on fathers day or a little while ago and keep it until the day?

this is quoted from their returns policy

"If there's a fault with the product...

    We've made it easier!

If you bring it back to us within 30 days with your proof of purchase, we'll give you a
    replacement or a refund.
If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair the product or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund.
Please note that all large kitchen appliances are excluded from our normal 30 day guarantee, but if your item develops a fault within 30 days, call us on 0845 640 0800 and one of our advisors will assist you with your problem. If faulty and if it cannot be repaired we will arrange a replacement free of charge or you can opt for a refund.
This does not affect your statutory rights."

So if it was purchased within the last 30 days then go back in and quote their own policy to them which formed part of the contract. If it was purchased more than 30 days ago then accept the repair.

Apple are known for their great customer service so just call them and they'll get it sorted for you.

try doing a full system restore through itunes.

    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

They have lots of items exemp from this policy, this is one of them.
Your OH has a contract with Argos and can insist Argos deal with the problem. However this will just mean a longer delay as they will just send it back anyway.
Take it to your nearest Apple store with your receipt and for items this new they usually just give you a brand new one there and then.

Not according to the terms of their returns policy that I quoted directly above, the only exceptions it lists are large kitchen appliances. Last time I checked an iPad is not a large kitchen appliance.

If they do have other exclusions they should list them within the other terms

Website says they are excluded from the 30 day money back guarantee.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Yes but that is part of their unwanted item policy not their faulty returns policy

This! I dont know anything about Argos policy's but this is the easiest way. I took my iPhone in 2 days before my warranty was up with an inherent fault and they swapped it for a new one there and then.

Not if the item is faulty it isn't.

Ah, I got you. I didn't realise they had a separate faults policy.

  • Hi

Just picking up on this thread after doing a search.

The mic on my ipad is starting to play up and I still have about 3 weeks warranty left. I bought it from Argos and planned on just taking it to the apple store. I can see on my credit card statement when I bought it, but cant find the argos store receipt- will that be a problem?

    Thanks
