I had a loan with Alliance and Leicester back in 1998/1999 with ppi. I have no paperwork , I can not trace account no . Does anyone have any contact details for A & l as I know they are part of Santander now ? Can I claim this far back ? Any help will be appreciated . Thanks

We had a successful claim via Santander for an A&L loan as old as yours - but we had the original agreement. If you have no paperwork and can't get any via a SAR then you probably won;'t get very far :(

    Hi Poppie1

    PPI Complaints Team
    Po Box 6197

    tele:08456006014,

I didnt bother writing I just gave them a ring. I got the account number from my online Lloyds old bank statements. If you bank with a different bank they may be able to help you out. They dealt with my complaint in 8 weeks with no questions.
    Hope this helps.:money:

Self employed is actually covered on most forms of PPI. It is only on some types it is not or it has too onerous terms. Did A&L cover self employed are not? (if they did then your complaint would likely fail. Finding out facts prior to complaint can a) save a lot of time and b) help formulate a better complaint as you dont get two bits at the cherry)

  • Hello poppie1
My three loans with A&L were dated between 1996 and 2002 and Santander made an offer on all three at just under £9k. I had kept copies of the Loan Agrts for 2 but for one I only had a letter with the loan reference number.

Whilst applying for my mortgage I had to do a credit check via Experian. Seeing my old loan taken out in 2005 I thought I would call Santander to check if ppi was on it. They confirmed it was and started the claim there and then over the phone. They confirmed another loan before taken out in 2001 was also on their file. I had no paperwork at all for both. I rang a week or so later to get all the details I needed regarding both loans - account numbers, repayment amounts, start dates, end dates etc, to assist when filling out the questionnaire they sent. Within 6 weeks of starting the claim they sent me an offer of near £4,000 - much higher than I had hoped for.
Worked for me, give it a try and do not use PPI claims company's as it's easy enough doing it yourself and keeping all the money.
  • Hi fantastic news regarding pay out from Santander for your old Alliance & Leicester accounts. I had a similar loan way back at the beginning of 2001, not 100% sure of the exact date but like you I have managed to locate some details from my old Lloyds bank stats. Before I call Santander do you happen to have an up to date contact number for them? Many thanks
