Thanks Nneave I was worried the machine would stink of the vinegar as I put a fair amount in - probably too much!
I haven't used the bleach idea yet I am going to leave that for a last resort as I am allergic to the stuff so will need OH to do it when he gets in.
The washers still sitting in the vinegar solution and I am keeping all fingers and toes crossed this sorts it out

have you checked your drain pipe? 9/10 times this is the culprit, either the pipe is raised so some of the water is left in the machine after draining (goddam gravity)or some of the waste from your sink pipe is siphoning back into the machine0

have you checked the waste pipe isnt letting dirty water back in? make sure its going down all the way and not falling back0

I was going to suggest something similar to this. I had an embarrassing experience with a washer pipe and an engineer.
Basically the pipe attached to the wall that you stick the waste pipe into, had become silted up with this black stuff and he ended up taking off the pipe, taking it outside and pushing a brush through it and it was full of this really yukky black silty stuff. I was really embarrassed! If your waste pipe doesnt have a U bend in it to form an air lock, it could be bad smells coming from your drains.
Also in this house our washer waste doesnt have its own outlet, it goes into the sink U bend trap, so its possible it could be coming from this.0 -
Was just going to suggest checking the drains. our WM used to drain out through a pipe and into the outside drain in our back yard. The drain had got blocked with dead leaves and rubbish and the smell was backing up into our machine - cleared the drain manually and then with some caustic soda and that solved the problemThat man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. I want to know if the washing machine saga was resolved personally
We used to get smelly washing all the time - not the inside fo the seal gets a wipe every time it's used, the filter is cleaned regularly and once a month at least i run a cycle with just vinegar in the machine and on the hottest I canDFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
