Help please with stinky washer? Desperate now :(

Hi, I am really needing some new ideas on how I can get my washer to stop smelling so badly. I have tried lots of tips on here already but nothing will work

I have tried 2 boil wash's with half a bag of soda crystals in the wash, I have tried 2 x HG washer repair cleaning stuff o a hot wash, I have tried numerous boil wash's with ordinary bio powder but the smell stays in the machine and on the clothes.

The clothes aren't left in the washer for anytime as even leaving them for 30mins to an hr can make them stink and the door is kept open all the time?

I am totally stuck for any new ideas now and is starting to really get me down :(

Any help on the washing machine saga much appriciated

Have you checked the fluff/bits trap? - stale fibres could be trapping the smell maybe?

Hi Thanks for replying the fluff filter is internal but it has been cleaned out by an engineer 3wks ago when it stopped working. The smell has been there for a long time now just getting worse?

  • Hi winnie81

I also have trouble with my washing machine being smelly, i put a cap full of bleach in the drawer and put it on a hot wash, then to make sure the bleach has gone do a quick normal wash this normally sorts it out. Also have you taken the drawer out and washed off all the gunk from it sometimes mould can grow in there and that can make for stinky washing.

    OK... try this...

Set your machine to a rinse cycle.

Wait until you can see some water in the drum and THEN tease open the soap drawer a little way and add a good dollop of vinegar.

Stay with the machine and when it starts to empty, wait a few seconds so that you are sure that your vinegar loaded water is being flushed through the pipes.

    Then switch the machine off.

Leave for a couple of hours and then switch it back on to finish the rinse.

This may take a couple of goes but it makes sure that you get the vinegar pretty much exactly where you need it.

I would also give the rubber seal a good wipe with white vinegar - water etc can get trapped there.
Could it be that only you can smell this? I know often if I get a bad smell I can smell it for ages after everyone else says its gone!

ps - dont forget to leave the WM door slightly open between uses to 'air' out & dry

lots of good tips here - I have bene having this problem so have cleaned the drawer unit, put on a bleach rinse and will follow with another empty rinse - not got any vinegar left from my earlier rush round the house!!

hadn't thought about leaving teh door opwn between washes to air and dry it out - will do this too.

Thanks guys and hope that the OP gets it sorted out too.

I have now given the drawer and nossles a real good clean with the vinegar and the machine is just sitting in the vinegar solution I put plenty in and I smell like a portion of chip shop chips now lol The seals have been wiped over too although under the seal is really stuck on black mouldy gunk that wont shift easily - any ideas?

Does the machine need a couple of quick washes to get rid of the vinegar smell?

Thanks agaiin for all your help

No, you wont need to rinse the machine to get rid of the vinegar smell. I use it in all my washes.
