Be careful what you wish for!!

A while ago I was talking money with my husband, both of us wishing for a magical £10k or so to drop into our laps.

Well, I got my wish, I've been made redundant and will have that amount and more shortly!

It got me thinking of other things you have wished for, then got and then thought "mmmm not what I thought!". I suppose for good form we should exclude ex partners or we'll have the longest thread in history! :rotfl:

I know there is a redundancy thread (I'm lurking about there) but I posted this question here as the redundancy is not the issue. Hope that makes sense? :)

I was in a load of pain while pregnant with SPD, on crutches, virtually housebound - and I remember thinking "god I'll be so cheesed off if I go overdue with this - I hope I go a little bit early" (meaning like 38 weeks)...

...see the sig. NOT what I'd planned on (and yes I do feel partially crap that I ever thought it considering how events panned out).
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
  • My father and his brother were separated as children and his brother grew up in the US. I knew I had a first cousin and had always wanted to know where he was and get in touch with him. After my father had died, and knowing that my uncle would no longer be alive, I managed to find a reference to my cousin on Google. Unfortunately the entry referred to a court report in a newspaper and he had committed a serious offence. When I hoped to see a photograph of him I hadn't anticipated that I would find it on the FBI's website!

Needless to say, I didn't contact him ... it was very disappointing though!

Seriously though Nan, is your redundancy upsetting you or are you fine with it given your circumstances? x

    Happy moneysaving all.

I'm fine sassyblue, thank you for asking :) I've been in the same job for 14 years so a change will do me good. I'm not due to leave until next March so plenty of time to adjust and think of what to do next. :)

  • I looked up to the sky and begged for £20k to pay off all my and OH's debts and have a bit left over. A friend of mine believes in the whole ask-the-universe thing, so I thought I'd give it a try.

The next day my at my appraisal at work my boss, completely out of the blue, said he had put aside £20k of the budget for me for a project of my choice. I got my £20k but can't spend it on myself. Apparently you have to be very specific when asking the universe for things!

  • A couple of years ago one of my friends was saying how he didn't like his current car and wanted a new one. The next day he was involved in a crash that wrote off the car, and thus he did have to get a new one! (He was lucky - they airlifted him to hospital just in case but he was totally fine).

Apparently you have to be very specific when asking the universe for things!

I was at a low ebb a while ago, mostly because of our debt and our 'in limbo' housing situation.

I asked the cosmos for 'three hundred grand' (which was enough to buy the house I was coveting).

The next day I got an email from the National Lottery to say my online ticket had won a prize.

Heart racing, I logged onto my account to find I'd won............three hundred pence! ...........Three quid! :rotfl:

I can only assume it thought I meant three hundred (and that would be) grand. :D

So yes, I agree with being specific. ;)

I read the supernatural short story "The Monkey's Paw" at an age when I was too young and impressionable.

It certainly made me careful what I wish for!!

I too wished I could have a new car as I hated the one I had. Wrote it off the next day :( First question my parents asked was if I had done it on purpose!
