Can I cancel mid contract?

I've been having broadband issues for a number of months (done a thread asking for advice with no sucess).

o2 (who provide internet and landline) have basically said there is nothing more they can do (basic concensus is that there is something external interferring with my wifi).

This problem I cannot locate and thefor cannot fix. Although i'm not 100% convinced there isn't also problems their end.

I've been informed apart from home plugs, cable is my best option, although I have just signed a new contract with o2 for a year.

Is it possible to cancel?

Technically their posistion is that the broadband is coming down the line fine, and it's basically my problem, but I know there is some legislation around this. Although they may be providing me with a service, it's a service that isn't fully functional.

I know the answer is more likly no, but thought it worth an ask.
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

    Do O2 force you ino using one of their modems like sky? Two things I can think of you trying first, as I've had similar issues with sky. Try a different modem router or borrows someone's working cable router.

    Plugged in our bband is usually ok, but to get wireless we're having to connect a cable modem. That at least would prove to you and O2 whether it is something affecting your wireless externally. If a cable router works, it's not an external issue.

    But on the actual question, that was an argument we were prepared to have with sky, before we realised we had given them so long to fix it we weren't in contract anymore. The fact sky "lock" you to their modem routers was another argument we were going to have. Contractually you may be shafted, but enough complaining may get you out of the contract for at least a reduced price if not free.

    I'm on my third o2 modem, but don't have the option to steel anyone else's really. I'll give it a good think though!

    So have you scanned for interfering RF using inSSIDer, moved the router away from any RF sources, DECT base stations for example.
    That gum you like is coming back in style.

    If you know someone who has a cable router they may let you borrow it. Ive leant ours out before for people. We've just bought another one as they're handy just in case. If you tried a cable router, you'd still need your O2 modem and you connect it via Ethernet, so it doesn't break any t&cs re modem routers. As long as you don't get hold of a really old one, they should work with little issue. Though I've found we sometimes have to reset the sky modem then plug the power into the cable router for it to work. Never works first time.

    But it did at east stop sky's argument that it must be something external affecting the wireless. If two cable routers can output them but not sky routers, it can't be an external issue!

    Since no network has responsibility for wireless connectrivity, I'm assuming you;ve tried an ethernet cable an it all works fine? If so, then the service they provide is totally fit for purpose, and there is no reason they would agree to release you. If there are really reception or configuration problems, investing in a home visit from a local PC tech may be worth the money if you are unsuccessful in fault finding yourself.

    Also, having read your original post, I used inSSIDer as recommended by Penrhyn which showed no wireless conflicts for us. Definitely worth checking if you haven't.

    I have tested it a little with the ethernet. The modem is in the hall next to the kitchen and isn't really a place I can sit with my laptop. i can get 10mb on ethernet but apparently have 18 comming down my line (if that makes sense)

    I think I will have a play with my ethernet tonight.

    Get a slightly longer cable! :) Your line speeds will vary depending on what your neighbours are using, I understand the contention rate is 10:1 (10 customers are allocated your 20Mb so if nobody else is on, you get the whole amount).

    umm, thats the problem. The longer line would have to go past the kitchen door, all the way upstairs, through the hall past the bathroom, into my room past the bed and find the desk.

    I think thats going to have to be the option. Mummy dear won't like it though lol
