I will have a proper read of this later - some time when the football's on LOL. MIA again and late to the party as per..... Well I seem to have got myself two festivals as press and photo access - all by asking nicely! I was offered BBC1's Big Hackney this weekend but we can't afford to do down to London for that only to return a few days later for the IVF. I had hoped it would match up and we could do a weekend but alas no. Still, two local ones are just as good.

Meanwhile - cats - aaargh! The house at the back had a cat (multiple times) which went everywhere as we live on a busy main road it was only a matter of time before it was knocked down. Needless to say no chip, no collar. Well now they've got two. Again no collar/bell which are spending their time poo-ing in my garden. I've got a cat scarer but they cleverly walk a path to avoid it so I have to keep moving it around. I put chicken wire along the hedge leaving enough space at the bottom for the hedgehog and now they come over the fence. We really need to replace the fence but that is number 3 on the funds list (barring emergencies). I am fed up of cat pooh. I was thinking of fixing something to the top of the battered fencing like trellis. Would that work to keep them out? Something they coulnd't grip like some more chicken wire? I did wander in the Money Saving Arms as I saw there was a thread there and blimey - talk about a heated debate. How can people be so nasty - calling each other "gay" just because they have differing views and telling people what they'd do to them if they found them spraying their cat with a water pistol. Blimey. It was so bad I've actually reported it. I now know why one of my friends has stopped coming on here because she said the abuse was pretty bad she was seeing. I will NEVER venture off this sub forum again LOL. Anyway, anyone got any ideas how to stop them? I've got a cat scarer which does work, chicken wire on the hedge and dried/dead brambles behind the compost bin for a prickly surface. Any ideas anyone?

So much for a short post LOL - hugs to all and I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their day!
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

Sybil Elmer (not Elmo) is brightly coloured, in patchwork squares, so it's easy to do! Heres's a link to Amazon and the cover of the first book:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elmer-The-Story-Patchwork-Elephant/dp/0099697203/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1340123143&sr=1-1
    Hope this helps!

You're right! I was so steamed up :o I got mixed up.

I was thinking, if I pop into town tomorrow (will be getting an all day bus ticket anyway for little bear's piano lesson) and get some fabric crayons then I can colour in squares on a plain white tshirt - he has a few that he is growing out of. I have a flannel sheet left from darling uncle that I was going to use for rags, but is more or less thick enough I suppose to make into trousers and again use fabric crayons to colour in squares. However I have no trouser pattern (should be able to get one at the same place as the fabric crayons) and I will be sewing it all by hand as I am scared of my sewing machine.

Though so far the height of my sewing ability has run to simple curtains.

Thank you for the post. I can't let little bear down.

We are about to try mothballs (from ebay). I suppose you could try that pricka strip stuff, but I wouldn't put money on it, the cats would just go round it. We have never had any success. I will let you know how the mothballs go.

Wannabe Sybil - You can use ordinary wax crayons instead of special fabric ones. Its usually a good idea to iron the coloured t shirt between some kitchen roll (with no steam) as it helps to get out some of the wax leaving behind the colour. It won't be totally colour fast but for a school costume it doesn't really matter (and it would be cheaper) Could you find some white leggings or tracksuit bottoms instead of you having to sew?

    Evening all

Feeling much brighter now, think the sunshine has helped :D it turned out glorious this afternoon. Spent 2 hours in the garden after work reading my Kindle.

I just made a lovely tea. I had some HM mexican lasagne in the freezer, and some HM mash plus some LO veg. So I decided to make some potato cakes with the mash and veg, added a spring onion some cheese and an egg to bind. OMG they tasted lush!! I made 2 portions, and am going to struggle to not eat the LO's :rotfl:.

    Night all

I am definitely going to be scrounging round the charity shops tomorrow to see what is there re the trousers/leggings/bottoms. However with the amount of notice, I don't have much searching time.

Wax crayons for this are ideal. I admit to being a bit nervous - I have a new iron and a relatively new ironing board and I am notoriously accident prone. But with enough towels it should be good.

atm I am going with the pyjama trousers and decorated old tshirt (tryin the wax crayons) but will see how energetic I feel tomorrow. It is the whole lack of notice thing that is so annoying. The teachers must have been planning this since before half term.

But I actually cooked a nice meal tonight despite all happenings, so that is something.

Thank you so much for the ideas.

I really, really, really admire your restraint and self discipline. Little bear is currently five, and has not yet done anything quite so dreadful. The significant word I think there is, 'yet'. How did you survive? And was this a regular thing? Not the donkey costume, but the last minute demand for the arcane? and what did you do? Apart from exercise considerable self control.

Okay, I have a breakthrough. I have a plain white t-shirt that little bear is growing out of, the inspiration of wax crayons from Looby Lou, and while I was sorting some clothes I found a spare pair of white trousers, from little bear's martial arts suit. I got a spare set of top and trousers after an awful colour run incident, but managed to more or less rescue the original set. Little bear is growing out of the suit anyway, so it is ideal. Also I have colour run remover powder left over from a series of accidents involving little bear's clothing, so I may even be able to get out the dye from the wax crayons!

Thank you so much for your help on this. It is very much appreciated. LoobyLou, the crayon suggestion is such a life saver and money saver. Little bear has informed me of all the colours needed and I would never have got them as fabric crayons.

    Evening all,

Well, finally packed DD4 and DGS2 off to Oz this morning....amazing how I miss them already and they are only as far as Dubai at this stage! Thought that it was funny that DD was all excited and DGS was cool as a breeze, as if he flies to the other side of the world every day of the week!

Nice day here, did just one load of washing, hopefully they will be dry before it rains again to-morrow....wonderful summer, am quite jealous of my brother who is in Sardinia in temperature in late 30s.

Visited BIL and OH's BIL who have both been in hospital recently, feeling very virtuous....no way I could persuade OH to come with me, he is such an anti social *it, getting worse every day.

Spent quite a bit of afternoon on phone getting quotes for travel insurance....OH is a problem because of his irregular heartbeat, eventually found a company to cover him for heart problem, only for trip and at a cost of €270...too scared to take a chance by not doing insurance and it is really the heart thing I need covered so had to pay up and shut up!

Have got Bran, DD's little dog until we go away, when he goes to DGS's dad, Mossy will then go into kennels, as really don't want to ask anyone to take responsibility for him...he and Bran get on very well most of the time so they are company for each other.

Ruby, hope that you get rid of ear infection soon, nasty things.

Hester....belated happy anniversary...time flies when you're having fun!

    Bitsy...happy anniversary for to-day.

Aiming to get to bed before mid-night to-night, need to be up early to-morrow as OH has his Warfarin clinic visit and I have knitting group...we could go separately of course as I now have DD's nice 2 year old car to drive....will see in the morning, he is such a wuss that I need to hold his hand wherever he goes!

Sleep well all and stay safe
