"Tiling onto the floor" I certainly hope NOT!
No floor, unless its concrete, is really suitable for tiling directly to. Either ply it first (min of 9mm) screwed every 150mm or put one of the many mats down.

Before answering the direct question what function does the heating have? Comfort or space heating?

Hi LD - well, a "professional" will be doing it but to my spec. I was considering plywood or one of those insulating mats the underfloor companies recommend - am happy to be guided as I am unsure what the floor surface currently is - prob floorboards.

    It's for comfort - it's a v small bathroom and I will have a towel rail/rad in there too..
    thanks

If it's just making the tiles toastie to walk on then I'd not bother with any more insulation than a 9mm tile backing board. That then does both functions of stabilising the floor and adding insulation.

    That's because I'm stupid! It's https://www.ambient-elec.co.uk ! Forgive an old man...

Another vote for these. Great kit but at more like 'trade' prices instead of Warmup which is priced at top retail prices but are no better. Ambients touch screen controller is excellent and far neater than most other makes.

I am a long time served electronics engineer and in my opinion the components are of very high quality.
