Fitting of a new boiler - labour costs reasonable?

Hi all,

Just been delivered a bombshell. Cost to repair a 12 year old Worcester 24CDi combi boiler is approx £400. Been asked to consider whether it's worth spending such an amount on an old boiler.

He gave me a price for the cost of labour only if I wanted to purchase my own boiler. £400 - this would include fitting of new boiler, new horizontal vent and patching up brickwork where the current vent lies.

He also has an extended warranty when he fits certain brands of boiler.

Worcester - 7 year parts & labour
Baxi - 5 year parts & labour
Vaillant - 5 year parts & labour

Is £400 a sensible amount for him to fit it?

What is wrong with your CDi? Btw...dirt cheap quote...does that include chemical flush of your central heating system etc? See more here.

All inclusive quote. 24 CDi main issue is that it needs a new PCB, along with a few other cheaper components. As it's about 12 years old, we questioned whether it was worth spending that kind of money as it will also need to have an expansion vessel changed in the near future.

The guy has done work for me in the past and has been fantastic to deal with. Just entering into a world that I have no knowledge of when it comes to labour costs for fitting a new boiler.

Considering 28kW versions - narrowed it down to another Worcester or a Baxi or a Vaillant.

12 years..? My boiler is 30 years old....
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

If I were to get a new boiler, have done some research on some models. Would love your feedback on the following:

    Worcester Junior 28i
    Worcester 30 si
    Vaillant ecoTEC Pro 28
    Baxi Duo-tec 28kW GA

As mentioned previously, only have a 24kW at the moment which did just enough. Have a 3 bed detached bungalow.

    Thanks

£400 is very cheap as long as he does it properly.

£600 + VAT would still be sensible, so you are getting a bargain, IF it really needs replacing.

I would suggest getting Worcester out on a fixed price repair, but IIRC the cut off point is 10 years old for the boiler.

Quote I had to replace my boiler (for labour) works out at about £600+VAT.

This quote is about 2 weeks old.

So on that basis i'd concur with gas4you that the amount quoted is cheap.

Good luck getting a modern boiler that lasts more than 15 years that you can still get parts for.
Mine is only 12 years old (as per the ops) and some parts are now a PITA to source. :(
