Nurse starting Botox & Fillers Business

Hi Everybody,
I am a registered nurse living in Bolton and today I have booked on a Botox & Dermal fillers course with Cosmetica training in Liverpool. At over a £1k it is the scariest finiancial move I have ever made.
My motivation for doing the course is that I work in a critical care unit in hospital, management are switching from letting nurses do long shifts to doing full time hours over 5 days of short shifts. With a young family I cant afford the childcare nor do I want to be away from home and my children 5 days a week (I currently do 3 x 12hr shifts).
I was wondering if there are any nurses out there doing anything simular and wondering how its going for you??
I am not a prescriber so looking on advice about who you use for prescribing?
Also about the type of insurer you use?
I am hoping to do it mobile to keep costs down.
Id be grateful of any advice....
Thanks

I'm also a nurse (mental health), looking this up for the first time today, a change in shift patterns has ignited my move also. I have seen a few courses that Im interested in but hoped you could perhaps answer a couple of questions...
I have tried to find out with no luck how much profit is to be made before I book on a course. I cant find any info anywhere, just really need an idea of how much profit from each botox injection, any ideas?
Also you need a GP prescriber, some talked of faxing a GP patient questionnaire costing forty pounds to then precsribe?
I think it costs around 700 a year insurance approx.
I thought of the nurse prescribing course but its an awful lot of money and I'm sure insurance would go up??
Hope you can help
Sarah" a life we could only dream of "Dreaming is a pointless exercise if it only serves to reinforce your own limitations.

I wish you'd posted before you committed yourself to this money as I would have strongly advised you not to.
The main question for me is how your nhs employers would view you doing this sort of business if they found out ....would they see it as a conflict of interests or bringing the nhs into disrepute.2014 Target;

Why not?
well as I said have you found how your (I presume) nhs bosses feel about you effectively moonlighting? Alot of employers state that before you have a 2nd job you need their permission.
Would they see it as a conflict of interest? They may not be too impressed in their nurses doing this sort of thing.
How would you get your clients? By putting up a card in a newsagent window? If you rented space in a beauty salon then the rent has to be factored in and that means the point at which you start making money is further down the line, once you've factored in your course fees.
But there again I wouldn't consider Botox as I'm happy in the (imperfect) skin I'm in.2014 Target;

Thanks mountainofdebt, however what my managers think of my plans doesn't concern me one bit. After all, the whole idea of me doing this is so I can leave my current job.!
I'm thinking of conducting my business mobile, maybe offering my services to salons in the future if that will pay off. Marketing wise I'm thinking word of mouth /social networking advertising / leaflets through doors of local area....0 -
My friend is also a nurse and is thinking of doing this she is going to be doing it at her local dentist using the dentist to prescribe. They will be doing it together as a business I guess.. Something to think about perhaps? You would get more clients, I for one would not feel comfortable going to a beauty salon for something like this.
Good luck with it..0 -

Might do if they sack you early on into the process for gross misconduct.
Oh well can't say you weren't warned.2014 Target;

If it's any comfort, I knew someone who was working as a nurse AND working in a beauty salon. I think she was doing electrolysis rather than Botox but similar principle, and I wasn't aware that she ever had any problems with her employer objecting to this.
Having said that, I imagine it's not the easiest of businesses to get off the ground and make a living wage from in a hurry (although very few businesses are of that kind!)
This might fit better on the Small Biz board if you want to ask one of the Board Guides to move it over there.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Mountainofdebt, who exactly do you think you are discouraging someone for using there initiative to choose a different and new independent career path which you know nothing about?
Savvy_Sue is on this site to be supported in her decisions to be successful NOT for you to tell her about responsibilities (to the NHS) which she doesn't have and that you know nothing about. Whilst informing her how you are happy within you imperfect skin... Which she did not ask about. It sounds as if you have an issue with Botox not her business plan.
Sue, good luck with the business. I'm sure it is as risky as starting any business but if you plan well, use good marketing tools to access new clients and provide a good service I am sure you will be successful.
