BT Infinity

Options
I am thinking of switching to BT Infinity from Virgin however we are very heavy users of the internet. In my house we would have 2 video streaming (netflix) and maybe 2 sessions of Onlive (basically another video streaming thing) plus normal surfing and other connected devices. Is BT Infinity truely unlimited?

  • I am considering this too - according to the BT website the only restrictions are on P2P file sharing at peak times.

I am on bt infinity and regularly use about 500gb a month download with no issues whatsoever. The only thing that is traffic shaped is torrents which if you dont use isnt an issue and if you do then use them overnight when restrictions are lifted.

One of the key factors in me signing up was the truly unlimited usage. It is indeed that and i can say i have been more than happy with the service so far.

Phoned Virgin got a deal I couldnt turn down 120mb BB full TV inc Sports and Movies, Spotify, extra box £80 for the next year. Which is less than I was paying with movies and sport.

Sorry to be really stupid here but how will that affect someone like me who uses the internet for things like iPlayer, iTunes, YouTube etc.?

I ask because I'm looking for a new ISP and the BT website suggests Infinity will be coming to my location at the end of this month. Given we don't have particuarly good speeds with BT as it currently stands I'm hoping Infinity may change that - but don't want to end up with such slow speeds its impossible to use.

    Thanks

It won't ! Unless you have something like this on your PC:

I wouldnt pay much attention to what they promise speedwise. As far as they are concerned 7meg up with an IP 20meg profile is good, same with download speed.
Customer service is non existent best you will get is leave it 3 days then the fault will be marked as solved.

Even with my throughput of 42meg i cannot watch HD in real time, they blame it on the sites. On other provider with 40/2 product i could stream HD building up a buffer.
Lag is a serious issue not uncommon to see well over 200ms on hops.
    Routings the problem.
