Have ecar told you that you still have protected if you stay with them ?

This is what their website says.

Protected No Claims Discount (NCD) for life

"Once you earn 5 years NCD it will be guaranteed for life provided that you remain an eCar policy holder

eCar will not reduce your NCD following any number of claims.

This outstanding policy benefit is available to all proposers who have 5 or more years NCD."

P.S They're a bad Insurer, try and get with a decent company when you get a chance

I only had 4 years so thr wont apply to me.
Since needing to claim on the insurance i have noticed they are not a good company and they have not helped me one bit in this situation. My policy is due for renewal 3rd july if i cant afford to get another car i will not be going with ecar

Exactly, so I'm not sure what makes you think you have been paying a premium to protect your NCD.

But if you have, you should ask eCar for those premiums relating to the NCD protection back as they obviously don't cover you.

Most garages have a high excess the company i work for i think its in the region of £25k so the garage you used would more than likely have to cover the full cost of your payment anyway

You only really have a case against the garage if they were negligent, what caused the fire and was it due to the garage's actions / lack of action
