    Limits here:

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/arriving/arrivingnoneu.htm

Turkey is not in the EU so you're looking at this:

    Alcohol allowances

You can bring in either, but not both, of the following:
    • 1 litre of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22 per cent volume
    • 2 litres of fortified wine (such as port or sherry), sparkling wine or any other alcoholic drink that's less than 22 per cent volume
Or you can combine these allowances. For example, if you bring in one litre of fortified wine (half your full allowance) you can also bring in half a litre of spirits (half your full allowance). This would make up your full allowance. You can't go over your total alcohol allowance.
In addition you may also bring back both of the following:
    • 16 litres of beer
    • 4 litres of still wine
    Tobacco allowances

You can bring in one from the following list:
    • 200 cigarettes
    • 100 cigarillos
    • 50 cigars
    • 250g of tobacco
Or you can combine these allowances. For example, if you bring in 100 cigarettes (half your full allowance) you can also bring in 25 cigars (half your full allowance). This would make up your full tobacco allowance. You can't go over your total tobacco allowance.
You cannot combine alcohol and tobacco allowances.

Where does that gem come from? The 6 founder members were France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Turkey are not yet members.

It doesn't matter why a country isn't included in the EU - you have to go by the rules set by HM Revenue & Customs when bringing in goods.

Your original question was how much alcohol & tobacco you are allowed to bring in from Turkey.
    You have the answer.

Bring back as much as you want, just try not to look suspicious when going through the 'nothing to declare' route.

Thats wrong im afraid. If you buy cigarettes or alochol from Turkey then you can only bring back the allowences listed in the second post.

If you bring back more, then you need to go through the red channel at the port (Goods to delcare) and pay the duty. Failing that, get caught travelling through the green channel and have it all seized.

Did you ever watch Mr Bean? Is it just me or do the muppets at border control remind you of him?

They are like traffic wardens - proper jobsworths, getting all hard over 200 Lambert and Butler in someones case from the Canaries whilst Pablo docks his speed boat on Blackpool beach and unloads a few kg of cocaine unnoticed.

Just bring back what you want, spilt it between your case and your hubby's and walk through separately. Even if one of you gets busted you'll still be on a winner.

You may both get busted if the cases are Xrayed on arrival - but I agree that priorities should lie elsewhere in respect of targeting those with a couple of litres of spirits and a few extra tabs in their cases while our porous borders allow everything and anything to come into the country.

    Not really.

They dont set the rules, just doing the job their paid to do - preventing prohibited and restricted items from being imported to the UK and protecting the revenue.

Im guessing you find the law hard to stick too.
