Solar Panel mis-selling?

I see many more houses each day being fitted with solar panels. However, the way I understand it is, supposing the Grid goes down (now VERY likely due to cyber-attacks etc.), then aren't your panels disconnected from the Grid so that risk-free maintenance can be carried out to effect repairs?
If they are prevented from generating power to the Grid, are they also prevented from generating power to your home, thus negating any benefits during a power cut? I cannot find, on any solar panel suppliers site, an explanation of exactly what happens when the Grid fails. Some even say that you will continue to enjoy the benefits of electricity while your neighbours are blacked out. I think this may be an incorrect statement.
Can anyone shed any light (preferably not solar-powered!
) on this matter?
Many thanks.

Your understanding is correct.
Mains power supply failure and you cease to have any power from your PV panels.0 -
Thanks for the confirmation Cardew.
Surely, this is a case of mis-selling from this company -
'And finally - as if any more benefits were needed - solar panels help make power cuts a thing of the past. Solar energy stores up through the day, ready for you to use when you require it, so while the electricity cuts out at your neighbours' homes, you've got all the heat, light and television you need!0 -

Mis-selling is all the rage at present.
Put your claim in now!

That very obviously is mis-selling for PV systems connected to the grid; also by stating that the solar energy is stored during the day and the implication that solar energy is sufficient to provide heat.0

You haven't said which company.
There are systems being offered that have a big battery bank, which can charge from solar or wind energy. If the mains fails, the system will disconnect from the mains, and keep the power on in the house.
However, that's not a standard part of a solar install - it's an expensive add-on.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

And I would have thought that someone with, in excess of, 15,000 posts, would know by now that newbies to this forum are unable to insert hyperlinks!
Surely a real espresso would wake up and smell the coffee!
The forum does not allow a post with links to be published due to anti-spam regs UNLESS you have made a certain minimum number of posts.
Not my rules. :mad:0 -

It doesn't stop you clicking on the hyperlinks that I posted for you in post #6, because I knew that as a newbie you could not post them. Try visiting here and then read post #6. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
