Taking food to Greece?

Apologies if this has already been covered, I've done a forum search and a google search but am no closer to an answer.

We are going to Greece in a couple of months (well 55 days actually, not that I'm counting - first holiday in 16 years, woohoo, lol) and need to know if it is ok to take food into the country.

My son, 5, is Autistic and only has 9 foods that he will eat, so obviously, with us going for two weeks, I basically need to take a suitcase filled with food for him. It would only be things like Organix Gingerbread men, oat bars, raisins, dairylee cheese spread and a birthday cake* for when we are out there, I imagine all those will be fine, but he still has Organix fruit puree pots and I'm not sure if you can take liquid food. Thinking about it, you must be able to, otherwise what would actual babies eat. Hmm.. Maybe I've answered my own question and it's fine, but it really does have me ... not panicked.. maybe concerned? So I would be grateful if anyone has taken food and could allay my fears?

* he does eat bread and butter apples, bananas, carrots and cucumber as well, but I'm pretty sure they'll be available out there.

Thanks for reading - seriously, so excited about our first ever family holiday - my 16 year old daughter has never been away -I'm packing our suitcases for the 10th time today, lol

You can take all that stuff although the liquids will have to go in your hold luggage. I'd be a bit worried about them bursting in the bag though.

Thank you. The fruit pots will all fit in a couple of the millions of tuppaware boxes I have, so that should be fine.

This gives the Greek custom regulations so looks ok though I'm not sure about the weight bit at the end.

To Argassi on Zante - not enough of the party capital for the teenager, but right on the (narrow) beach for the little one.

And thank you - am looking up the regs now

    • powdered milk for babies, food for children and special medical food (including pets food) may be allowed if they need not to be refrigerated prior opening and that it is brand packaged food and the packaging has original seal (unless in use at the time) and its quantity must not exceed the weight of 10 kg originating from Croatia, Færøer Islands, Greenland and Iceland, and of 2 kg if originating in other countries

Hmm, the bits are going to be spread over 6 cases (in case any get lost) would they really take all the food out and weigh it up? It's only the fruit pots that weigh anything anyway, the other stuff is nice and light.
  • I really like Zante, been a few times but never to that resort. If you can, do a round the island trip, there's lots to to see and photograph. Try and see the turtles too!

you could get the boots in the airport to order you the fruit pots in then you can pick them up airside so no need to worry about security or them spilling in the hold. I did this with milk and fruit pots a couple of times when my DD was young
    have a great time x

Do you have a limitation on just food types, or do you need specific brands?
If so, you can buy some of the stuff locally. For instance instead of Dairylea, you can get La vache qui rit cheese spread.

Whatever you bring with you, must go in checked baggage, not in carry-ons.
