Hanging Basket Theft!!!
Does anyone have a solution to hanging basket theft.
My neighbours recently put up 2 baskets outside their house, they were absolutely gorgeous and as every plant was grown from seed had obviously taken some time and effort to put together.
Got up this morning and they have gone.
It comes to something when a hanging basket outside your house is not safe. We've looked round the local area and can't find them.
I had it done a few years ago and it seems to be an increasing occurrence, especially with rattan/wicker baskets.
Now mine were not taken which probably means they're a bit cr*p LOL, but I'm looking for the cheapest, easiest way to prevent them from being taken.
Any advice appreciated.

Just a thought but is there any way you could use tyre ties? Not too sure but that was the first thing that sprang to mind.0

Zip ties. Round the attachment point, obviously, but also between the chains and basket. They won't stop someone with a knife on them, of course, but it will prevent a casual thief.Val.0

you could try Geni hanging basket lock they are around £5.00 each but will last for yearsI would like to be a glow-worm.
A glow-worm's never glum.

I have seen this happen before! A friend of mine had this happen to her and she worked so hard on them too!!
She tried cable ties and they were stolen again by someone who we guess came back with a pair of scissors or a knife.
In the end she bought small pad locks and locked the chains to the brackets, granted its not the prettiest solution but it has deterred her thieves and baskets are still in tact!.0 -
Life is a rollercoaster.....ya just gotta ride it:whistle:0

We used a combination of cable ties and also garden wire wrapped round the basket and hanger. Cable ties look neater and will deter the casual thief but metal wire will stop someone with scissors.
We also think about where the brackets are. If they are at a height that can be reached by someone standing up then maybe worth moving up higher position.
Any thief with a ladder and cable cutters will be going after bigger targets then a hanging basket.0 -
I use to do mine with garden wires wrap around basket and hanger too. Would stop the determined thief but the ones that are opportunist it might.0

I'd use tie wraps too0

last couple of years i've solved this solution with cable wire, tho' having read that some of you put wire through as well, has made me paranoid about mine, so i think i'll do that too soon. it's v. disheartening to find your lovely flowering basket disappearing overnight, i've had it several times years ago and made me stop for a while. then someone recmd cable ties and have kept the nasty thieves at bay (fingers crossed still!)
take it like a man, sonny - what do you mean by 'prickly bits'0
