  • Thanks Bex, I can't believe how hard it is to get out of the PD loan trap - I will never use them again. I wish I could tell everyone else how awful they are, I thought it was such an easy solution!

  • Woke up this morning to find that I haven't been paid... grr. Seems like it will be tomorrow due to all the bank holidays and stuff we've had lately. Ah well, is a good excuse to have a no spend day!

Transferred the last 77p in the account over to my savings as nothing else will come out of my current account until tomorrow, so that is my payment a day sorted.

Ebay stuff is looking promising - 4 of the things I listed last night have bids on them. If they all went for the 99p starting price, I'd have almost £20 towards my PD loan pot - great stuff! I'd like to pay it off in blocks of £100 so I feel like I could do the first one before my birthday at the end of July.

Packed lunches all round today, should save a few quid too. Dinner from bits in the freezer, planning meals for the rest of the week but will need to do a shop tomorrow when I get paid.

Have a good day everyone, and stay dry, it is lashing it down here!

  • Wahoo! Came home to find £10 worth of bids on Ebay items - they have 8 days left to run so I'm feeling optimistic.

A NSD day here, nice to have a packed lunch at my desk and cooking tea using all the odd bits left in the freezer. Pay day tomorrow, looking forward to a childfree weekend with the OH. I'm trying to think of free or cheap things to do instead of the pub...

Well done you sound like your on your way. Best piece of advice I can give you is to have a goal once your Debt Free, put it on a notice board or the fridge and every time you clear some just look at that picture and smile. It helped with me. x
  • Thanks RockChic, that sounds like a good idea! I'm really sad, all I want in life is a new kitchen at the moment. Might go through the Ikea catalogue and tear one out! :)

  • Today's PAD is £4.97 as it is payday - yipee!

I'm off to withdraw £320 to spread out over the next 5 weeks to make sure we have money for groceries. I've also planned our meals for the week ahead and made a shopping list for tonight.

I'm determined not to take OH into the supermarket - things just seem to fall into the trolley if he comes!

I also cancelled my craft magazine subscription direct debit today - I know it is only £9 every 3 months but it feels frivolous and I don't really read it anyway. Might try looking in the charity shops for old mags instead.

Might also ask the OH if he'll ring vodafone and get my bill down (he has both our mobiles on the same account). I've been paying insurance since I got it and I'm not using all my minutes so you never know, I might save a tenner or 2 a month there too! I'm so suprised at how quickly it all adds up.

  • Well done :) it's worth checking with Vodafone, just in case, you never know. xx

  • First shop of my new MSE era!

Typical payday shop at T*scos would comprise of about £120 worth of groceries (followed by a huge amount of chucking out of unused food a week later), several bottles of wine, magazines or books for everyone as a treat, plus usually items of clothing or things for the house. If I came out under £170 I was doing well!

Decided to shop at Morrisons today as they don't have clothes or much home stuff so thought it might help me to stick to my grocery list! I'm also going to shop for 10 days worth of evening meals at a time as it will help with the maths. So I got food, toiletries and house cleaning stuff for £75.50 I've bought lots of Morrisons value stuff, 12p cans of rice pudding are not to be sniffed at. :)

The next 10 days dinners look like this (in case my lovely OH accidentally wipes it off the message board):

    Tues: Chilli & Rice
    Weds: Pasta and Veggie Sausages
    Thurs: Omelettes with homemade wedges
    Fri: Curry
    Sat: Lasagne & Garlic Bread
    Sun: Chicken Wraps and rice
    Mon: Jacket potatoes
    Tue: Pizza and salad
    Wed:Corned Beef Hash
    Thu: Pasta Bake
Fri: Chickpea Burgers & Cous Cous

Nice looking mealplan! Don't forget leftovers! They make lovely lunches :)

Also, if you cancel your magazine subscription, there are some lovely web alternatives for crafting - this site gives a magazine style feel so you see the pictures and can click to the blogs/articles about them and might save a few more pennies than a mag. Plus, no clutter and it's updated fairly often!

    K xx
