Legal requirement for items on windscreen

Hi All,
Hoping someone can help.
I've been issued a parking permit by my management company that is rather large in my opinion (A5 size), I wondered is there a law that says you shouldn't have items over a certain size stuck on the inside of your windscreen?
Many Thanks

It sounds like its for private land so its up to the management company (as interpreted by their clamping company) where you need to place it - in other words : ask them

Only if you have it there while your driving.

Why not just put it there when your parked and chuck it on the back seat or under yours when your on the road driving.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Yeah I was doing that - but forgot to put it up (in a rush!) and got a fine, so I want to be able to put it up at all times (like the last permit we had which was tax disk sized.
My own fault for fine totally - but was trying to make life easier for myself.
Do you know what the rule is for if you are driving - I'm going to try asking for a new permit that I can put up at all times - paying for management company makes me feel like I should be able to have some input!

I believe the Road Traffic Act only makes reference to the swept area of the windscreen.

However, like many things, it'll be down to the interpretation of a police officer as to whether an offence may have been committed.

Why not simply, and permanently, lay it on top of the dash at the passenger side above the glove box?

Hope you didnt pay it, no one can fine you except the police, the courts and the council.

These people are cowboys, they are not fines, they are unenforcable invoices. For an invoice to be valid it has to be agreed beforehand by both parties.

You should have just ignored it. There are so many threads on the boards about the same thing and all the legalites of them.

Stick it onto the sunvisor and fold it down when you park up.

Yes. You are not allowed anything on the screen which impares the view of the driver. The area this is in force on is the area the wiper blades cover.

So all those people who put Satnavs on the windscreen in the area swept by the wipers are committing an offence. Plenty of trucks have failed MOTs when their drivers have left them in and drivers have been told to remove them at roadside checks.

The MOT requirements concerning the swept area of the windscreen are in addition to the rules on restricted vision.

A5 is pointlessly oversize and an obstruction. Can you trim it or fold it, and tell the management company not to be so stupid.
