Urgent : Passport question

I had a passport but it expired last year. I need a new one for Friday morning. Can anyone tell me if its at all possible to get 1 within 4 days ? I cant believe Ive not sorted this before now, its my sisters Wedding on Saturday in Madrid:( It looks as though you cant use the premium 1 day service if you dont have your old 1 (even if it had expired) :(

"Insisting" does not tend to go down well with the IPS, especially when it is not a true emergency. The OP needs to call and explain the situation and ask for the next available appt - this may take up to two weeks in peak season (i.e. now).

He also needs to tell them he does not have his old passport - this is normally essential for a fast track renewal, and may make him ineligible to use the service.

As MOST airlines today require Advanced Passenger Information {API} when booking a flight or holiday doing what is stated as the first reply would cause even more problems as the passport office could ask how {as Spain is one country that requires this} how the OP booked a flight ticket without a passport or {and being a nasty person} say to come along to get a new passport but adding at the end "and please bring your flight ticket as proof of flight day and
destination". Then I can see big problems for the OP. I do think in all honesty that the OP will not be attending the wedding on Saturday and for that I am sorry but perhaps it is a lesson to all to check at least once a year as to when it runs out

If you can't get an appointment your only real option would be the ferry to France where outbound passports are seemingly rarely checked. And if they were an out of date pp might not be noticed with the cursory glance you'll likely get.
Once in France just make your way to Spain. Coming back you will get hassle at the airport but won't be denied boarding.

Of course all the above carries risks of being refused at Dover, but it may well be your only option.

Fwiw I've never been checked leaving the UK at Dover.

The OP doesn't have their OLD passport to use tho.

she was given an appointment at Durham as she was flying to Paris 2 days later - she got her passport renewed. I rang up the appointment line and asked very nicely for the next appointment.

    Hi Janejaz

I do think your daughters situation was different, to start with the passport was stolen not just run out approx a year ago, second {as I understand} your daughter had her flight sorted out so from that point it was not her fault that the passport was stolen and although you do not say what time of year it happened we know that around this time of year many people have applied and are waiting for passports for summer holidays and waiting times can reach to around 4/6 weeks for them to be supplied. So as I stated before {and with respect to the OP} I believe the chance of them getting sorted by Friday is nil

You do not need to enter your passport details in order to book and pay for a flight.

You only need to enter those details when you come to check in online and print your boarding card.

  • Thanks guys, looks like Ill need to get onto the passport office first thing and hope for the best, although i dont hold too much hope.

I only realised last night I didnt have it. Turned the house upside down, its not here. The reason I know its out of date is because I just checked a scanned copy of my passport on my computer, and realised that it was out of date anyway. Gutted
