You do know they were voted out over two years ago?0 -
if you've never owned a diesel before - please do use the disposable gloves when filling it up! (yes, some people do use them and they are there for diese owners!)
it's nasty stuff and doesn't just evaporate like petrol - it stays for hours on the skin and then transfers to the steering wheel and stays there for ages too - nasty stuff to handle - can't do your skin any good at all.
otherwise - with regard to car selection - DPF's have been mentioned earlier and can be a pain if you do a lot of short trips - speaking of short trips, diesels are only really any good when they are hot and because they are hot, but sadly they take A LOT longer than petrol engines to reach temperature. if you do a lot of short trips, you may find that a petrol is the better buy for you - get nice instant heat in the winter too!
it's not always as clear cut as "diesel is more economical"0 -
diesels have been around for years with no major health problems even tho they are much more popular now than 20 30 years ago0
-
they are (effectively) banned in california though - due to their NOX emmisions ( i think) - which is why the yanks have never taken to diesel - although i noted on a recent trip to florida a rise in the number of VW diesel cars on the road and a number of filling stations carrying diesel at the pumps.0

If i lived in California with cheap petrol and affordable proper V8s, i wouldn't be running a VW or anything else with a rattling stinking tractor engine that wouldn't pull you out of bed either.0

Indeed. In fact when unleaded first started replacing 4 star they used benzene to replace the tetra-ethyl lead, which is evil stuff. I used to wash oil off my hands using petrol until I started reading up about it.
That said, the risk from either as fuel is vanishingly small, just don't drink it or bath in it!0 -
Emissions from cars are probably as harmful to those breathing them in as passive smoking, particularly for those living in large built up areas with a lot of traffic.
However if there's one truth in life it's that something will eventually get you & the only reason for death is being born.0 -
I'm pretty sure paying for and reading, "The Mail" rots your brain too.
following mcjordi's "everything gives you cancer" this reminded me of Russell Howard's song...

5tWhat if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0
