Asda wine offer genuine or a con?

Just shopping in Asda today and looking for a bargain Rose wine I spotted a J.D.Chanet a well known French product selling at something like £5.98 but in Asda's 3 for £10 offer made it a bargain buy. but I became suspiciouswhen I noted another of their brands selling at £4.50 but not in the 3for 10 offer.
How could they do a £5.98 product in the offer and not the £4.50 I ask.
Looking further into the matter I noticed the unique Chanet bottle shape which is a little bent at the neck was missing on the dearer wine which also had a rather slick silver wrapping like a champagne bottle around the neck making it look expensive.
Now when you look for a nice wine you expect the proof to be something like 11% which the £4.50 was but the £5.98 was only 5% which is only a soft drink now I ask is this a con or what?
Is this how Asda achieve their latest award for lowest price supermarket.:exclamati

You got me on the ABV Dqvvx but looking at the bottle I did buy it is 12% volume which makes it a strong drink whereas 5% is nothing like.
Thanks for your comment anyway.0 -
J.D.Chanet
If that was it's name then it surely a copycat name trying to sound like the real thing?

Sorry J.D. was my error. Everything about the packaging looked genuine but the bottles themselves were not pukka J.P,Chanet, they had straight necks whereas the genuine ones are bent.
There could be a perfect explanation but it does not ring true.0 -
JP Chenet is generally sold at above £4 in most places so if you like it, it is worth the three for a tenner (which is the price it used to be before it became more popular and found its way out of cash & carries).
But you are right to be wary of these price "deals". I'm a lurker in the wine sections looking for bargains so get used to the prices. So many are artificially inflated. Three Mills white reserve is actually quite a nice fruity one and is currently being sold for just over £3 at my local Asda. It won't be long before it is knocked up again and put into the three for a tenner section.
I'd advise ignoring previous prices and decided whether the price offered, individually or collectively is worth it. I know peope who will just select three of the highest individually priced ones thinking they are getting a bargain when they are not.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Itrs probably just a case of who ever decides about the offers not to select the wine(or could only source x amount to be part of the offer) priced at £4.50. Just looked at asda.com and theres only 2 types of wine on the 3 for £10 offer, both sparklings (rose and white)0

You are right in what you say Scooby but remember what I said about the alcohol content 5% against 12%, you would not pay £4.50 for that never mind the £5.98 they said it had been.0

I would say Asda are missing a trick there.
Many people might like to take advantage of a wine (assuming it is of reasonable quality in other ways) with such a low alcohol rating. It would be ideal for a glass or two at lunchtime without any detrimental after effects the following afternoon.
They should promote it on the basis of its low alcohol. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
5% is a medium strength beer, not a "Soft Drink"0
