Orange (Canary)
Options
Hi
Thinking of getting rid of my BT landline, and going on the Canary PAYG package on Orange.
Im already with Orange for my mobile.
My question is, with the £10 top up it says you get 100 free minutes, plus 100 texts.
It also mentions a £5 'bolt on' which can be added to Canary (or the other 'animals' in the package) and it would be unlimited texts
So, with a £10 top up, I could add on the £5 thing with the unlimited texts and still have the 100 minutes talktime?
Would the £5 add on just last a month?
Thanks, hope Ive explained it properly

The unlimited text "extra" is now £7.50/month, not £5/month

You are correct that a £10 top up each month on canary gets you 100 evening mins and 100 evening texts or photo messages as a top up reward, and that leaves you with a £10 balance which you can choose to spend on any "extras" - on of which is unlimited texts for £7.50/month. This would leave you with £2.50 of credit from your £10 top up. Top up rewards only last for that month. Extras last 30 days.
There may be much better value options available to you. What usage are you thinking about? Are you prepared to consider a monthly contract or do you want to stick to PAYG? Do you need to stick with Orange? (it's OK if you do). I think cheaper options will be available.0 -
thanks for information Stuart_W - apologies for not acknowledging earlier, i can only access a computer at my library when I get chance
I would prefer to stick with Orange to be honest. I really would prefer to stop with PAYG. My main thing is texting, but having call time in case of emergency, but at the minute I dont really use my landline, and the £14 or so line rental just seems to be a waste for it just sitting there.
My main two things are texting, which is mainly how I contact people, and having some call time available in case of emergencys where texting is too time consuming you know?
I have looked at other deals but to be honest its a bit confusing, and would involve unlocking my phone etc to access another network.0 -
Lots of folk have a network that they prefer, so if you want to stick with Orange then that's fine. You also know where you are with the signal.
If you are mainly thinking in terms of texting, Orange offer 400 free texts to use every month when you top up £10 on their Dolphin or Monkey tariff, so this might be better than the 100 off peak texts and 100 off peak minutes on Canary.
You can use some of that credit to buy a £7.50 "extra" of 100 minutes if you want. They would only last for a month.
However, they do have a daily version, too. For £1 you get 25 minutes to use that day. You can buy this on any days you wish (and this site suggests that any minutes over this will cost 4p/min that day).
If you think you might be sticking with Orange, and are going to be looking at topping up £10 a month regularly, their Ready Deal bundles mean you could get a free phone if you like by simply paying 6 months or 12 months top up in advance (and that is added as £10 credit each month - regular credit, it doesn't disappear or expire, choose and/or change Orange PAYG tariffs as you wish, all top up rewards still apply, it's just the same as top up credit you'd add yourself). These deals are available to new and existing customers and you can keep your number.
If you were prepared to move networks, then probably giffgaff would be the best alternative PAYG option for you - it's PAYG with calls at 10p/min, and £5 bundle from your credit gets unlimited texts for 1 month. A market stall can probably help you with unlocking your phone. You can keep your same phone number.0
