If I take a unlocked Uk mobile(a nokia)to another country(Trinidad, WI) and use a sim from that country's mobile network, will it work? I know it uses GSM 1800, which my handset has.

The simple answer is - yes it will. You can often buy a sim in advance on Ebay - just search for trinidad SIM and see if anything comes up. You can also try 0044.co.uk0
