Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 16th June. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
I've been up since 4:30, washing is on the line, fish fed & shopping list made. Car's going for it's MOT today, DS is doing it & will check it first to make sure it passes.
It's been a sad & difficult week, 2 marriage breakdowns, one after 28 years & one after 10 years, all I can do is be a shoulder to cry on.
Work's been stressful, the Sword of Damocles is still hanging over me as to what action will be taken about me reading 'the email' I made it worse as I spoke to another person who rec'd it as I didn't understand why I'd rec'd it, discussing it added to my sin. I have been robust in my defence & turned the blame squarely on the sender, ok I've have the same surname as 4 other staff members, all the more reason for people to be careful, hopefully it will all blow over with just a black mark on my record.
I shall spend time looking for more stuff to ebay, but there probably isn't much left now.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Ive fed the guinea pigs and the cat

the washer is making funny noises so im waiting for DH to have a look at it , hope he can mend it
will clean the upstairs when i get back ( i now have a new hoover after blowing up my old one )
hope everyone has a lovely weekend xx0 -
Morning all,
Nice and blowy here atm, but more rain meant later on, so got some washing on the line, one in the wm and another to go.
Sistercas, how on earth are you going to afford uni for DD1, its soooo expensive, we are looking for dd for next year and its  xx
Need to drop dd off at work for 9,come home tidy through, and I need to nip to Mr T at sometime as I have a £20 off clothing voucher that needs using by Monday, and I need to get a fathers day card.
Tea for oh and I is some trout fillets and prawns with salad, and B + B for him, I shall probably make dd a pasta bake or something.
Need to hoover through, and have a general tidy.
Have good days all xx
Hugs to NMLC and Butterfly xxx0 -
Hi all
HH - can,t understand how you can be blamed for receiving an unsolicited email? Bonkers.....
Monnagran - Welcome back, we,ve missed you.
Butterfly - OMG - take it easy, that sounds nasty x
Was awake at 4 this morning WM - chucked in some bedding then went back to be with coffee ans my bargin 1p book The Paupers Cookbook, so far, not bad - I also bought Delia,s Frugal Food and Nigella,s Kitchen and be-ro cookbook - love cookbooks:) especially when they are cheap, and as the advert says - its because I,m worth it:rotfl:
OH and I went out for a few drinks and a curry last night, after a stressful week - DD turned up yestday (her birthday) I think she was a bit shocked that I had stuck to my guns and all she got was £20 in a card from us, her BF told me later that she thought she was getting a IPhone and I wouldn,t punish her on her birthday - guess again sweetpea - i must say I did feel guilty all day, but it had to be done - still no apology by the way!
Bit of baking washing and cleaning today. Must clean out the fridge, I think some things blocked as we keep finding a little puddle of water in front of it.
Dinner - fresh crab, OH picking one up yummy - will make bread to go with it and salad.
Have a fab Saturday all ,xxNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
£300/£1300 -
Good Morning x
Hugs for Hester x
So sorry NMLC x
Be back later xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning everyone,
Hester hugs for you, hope we can all be your shoulder to cry on.
ButterflyBrain look after yourself!
Monogran welcome back.
nmlc sorry to hear about your aunt. At least she is no longer in pain.
Islandmaid well done on sticking to your guns.
It rained all night here last night, the cricket (Notts v Derbys) was called off without a ball being bowled and I had to put my washing in the TD.
OH went to the pub to watch the football and DS had some friends round to eat pizza and watch the football here (HM pizza of course!)
DD2 was at a sleepover and DD1 and I snuggled down in the back room and watched an old Lewis.
Today is busy, I have to take DD1 to a music theory exam, DD2 to a netball tournament (thankfully indoors), get my hair cut and buy some food, all whilst dodging the rain!
Have a lovely day everyone and stay dry, I really hope that no-one else has to suffer flooding.:)0 -
Good morning Hester and all.
Rain, rain and more rain. Its rained heavily now for a good 36 hours off and on. When i say rain, i mean torrential downpours.
Havent got much to do today. Probably grocery shopping later on but thats about it really.
Might start listing my[STRIKE] junk [/STRIKE]useful items on eb*y a bit later.

Good morning all :hello:
Hester - stick to your guns!
Goodness, sounds like I've missed so much since I've been "away" from the forum!
I've had a look at the Downshift Challenge tool. We've already downshifted majorly on items - some things which we've tried and gone back "up" eg DH rejected the Value/Everyday Value "wheat biscuits". However, at least I tried with that one. I think that we're pretty good at buying the best deal.
I really need to jazz up my meals as we're getting stuck in a rut. By the time I get home, there's little time to do anything extravagent and we've run out of pre-made stuff in the freezer. Some friends gave me some meat from their farm, but they're not normally cuts which I'd use so I'll have to find something interesting to do with them! Maybe Delia will have something in Frugal Food, which is sitting on my shelf!?
In other news, I've had a good old clear out of some books. The church in my parents' village is having a garden fete and they always have a book stall. I'm happy to donate to them as my mum will buy other books from there and pass them around the family.
It's the Farmers' Market today in my little town, so I'd better get cracking and get down there!
Have a great day

Morning everyone - hope you don't mind my popping in. I just felt like a bit of a chatty post
A lot of the time I'm only able to cram in a few posts a day but I'm going to try and make more time for being organised, sociable and to try and be me. If you see what I mean! (Not enough sleep, zzz)
Anyway, got some relatives visiting today, so spent a large portion of time I should be sleeping trying to come up with what I'll cook them for tea. Some are rather fussy so it's been a brain-wracking time. As for everything else; the sky is grey, it's really windy and I'm up far earlier than I intended for a Saturday. I do have to pop to Mr M at some point anyway to fetch another bottle of squash and get a lotto ticket, but that's hopefully all I'm going to spend today! I'm determined to actually finish a Grocery Challenge under budget!
Yesterday was quite productive as I managed to clear a couple of shelves in the bookcase. I only rejigged things around so I could fit in some of my cookbooks (Have got so many! People get stuck for ideas for me at Christmas/birthday!). Anyway, I've waffled on long enough. I really ought to start the day. Have a good one. Hope you don't mind me dropping in.

Morning All!
Lovely and sunny in Hastings today. Blowy though!
Ripped my arm again last night, I was only leaning in the cupboard over the cookery books too!:o Looks awful again. Wish I knew what it was. Doctor doesn't seem to know either.
DD is back today after their holiday. She sounded much better yesterday. Combination of the pills and holiday I hope.
Going to see a friend today who has a bakestone for me. My sister purloined my great-grandmothers and won't give it back to me, so Barbara said she has one that she doesn't use.
Hester How is it your fault for an email that for wasn't for you? Senders fault isn't it?
Don't know what's for dinner yet:rotfl:
Have a good day all!I Believe in saving money!!!:T
