wrap the siren in a towel and pull the fuse or disconnect the siren

the siren unit has its own battery. Remove it and put it in a bucket of water...

I know as soon as you disconnect the siren it will go off. If you wrap it then you will not annoy your neighbours as much

    so just to confirm then
    crack wheel nuts
    raise car
    remove roadwheel
    remove wheel liner
    go in kitchen find towel
go to car wrap towel round sounder
do you then replace all parts or leave 3 wheels on your wagon?
if you like, I would just turn the wheel full lock remove liner bolts with pillips/torque bits and a 10mm spanner and get my hand in.

This must be a common GM-issue as we Saab owners have the same problem. The batteries in the alarm siren box become old and faulty. The batteries are notoriously difficult to get hold of in our systems and there's an outfit on the net who supply an additional battery pack which you wire to the siren box instead of changing the battery.

I would imagine Astra or other GM owners sites have similar fixes if the problem is really widespread.
