BT Vision Channels

I've decided that when we move to Norfolk in October, the Sky TV is getting cancelled and we're going to have BT Vision instead, would do it now but don't have rooftop aerial to get the freeview channels.

It's not very clear on BT's website what the full list of channels is. The package I want to go for is the one that's currently £12.50 month and then pay £18 for Sky Sports 1 & 2 for my husband as he likes WWE. The channels that it's not clear whether we can get are all the Discovery channels mainly Home, Science, home & health. I love my documentaries so would like to have National geographic and History channels. Think these might be available through the on demand part of BT Vision?

Also which radio channels can you get? With Sky, we can get all of the UCB stations (Christian) and would like to be able to listen to them after we move. The other possibility is to buy a DAB radio to get these.

My husband wants us to continue with Sky but that depends on us being allowed to have a sky dish on the house (think some landlords say no Sky dishes but my husband reckons that they can't stop us having Sky). He's also told me that WWE isn't on Sky sports 1/2 but is on Sky Sports 3.

Thanks to anyone who can answer any/all of these questions.

  • Firstly your husband is correct and WWE is usually on Sky Sports 3 and thus not available via BT Vision. Next none of the documentary channels you list are available live. From a quick look through there On Demand listings there is virtually nothing that I can see from the National Geographic or History channels, most of their documentaries appear to be from the non subscription channels on Freeview - see here - http://www.btvision.bt.com/listings/on-demand/tv

Also note that UCB is not available on Freeview so you will lose that as well - see here for Freeview channel list - http://www.freeview.co.uk/_retuneinfo/_format/downloads/ChannelGuide30September.pdf

Really BT Vision at present is a poor alternative for where Sky or VM are not available and/or all you require are Sky Sports 1 & 2 and/or On Demand Movies. Forget it as a major pay TV alternative to Sky or VM.

Thanks for that. This means that we have to go with Sky (if LL will let us have it) or he'll have to make do with freeview as I don't think we can get VM in the town we're moving to. Being honest, if I can get my documentaries and the things I like watching on Home and Home & Health channels, I'd be happy. Might have to see if any programs are available through National Geographic and History Channel websites. For UCB, we'll get a DAB radio as soon as possible after moving in. I think we can listen to the radio stations via UCB's website, not ideal but will have to do until we can get DAB radio.

Avoid BT Vision at all costs - what they provide of Freeview depends on what your local aerial can pick up - nothing more. Also you are forced into taking their BB service too. Far better to leave it alone..... :)

As above, BTV is simply Freeview plus some on-demand content. So if you are on a relay rather than a main transmitter, the choice will be very limited.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Lord Sugar's YouView is going to be launched in the near future, similar in principle to BT vision but with more backers.
I applied to be a trialist the other day, probably won't happen though!!
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Oh good - it can sit next to the Amstel Executive phone.... another possible disaster in the making, unless there's no commitment from the viewer.

How do I find out if aerial in house is on a relay or main transmitter? My husband wants to be able to keep watching his WWE which to me is pointless violence. Is there anyway for him to see his WWE without having to pay the £50 for Sky?

Yes there is other places that show all wwe events including box office pay per view, but its not allowed to be discussed here, sorry
