Absolutely agree!!!!....If you left an item bought at auction on their premises..even if you had paid the hammer price in full they would charge storage..often up to £1 per day. I wouldn't even give it another thought just get it back on Ebay & resell it. Its ridiculous to think they would have expected you to keep it for them this long. Why go to the hassle of tracing such a numpty!
An auction house would likely charge more in storage. Generally what they would do is resell it in the next auction and charge the original buyer commission and leave the proceeds of sale to one side.

It may be that the original buyer had a personal crisis, or whatever, so as suggested above, contact one last time, perhaps by letter if you have the address. Give them 14 days to arrange collection and say you will resell, I think at this stage what you do with the proceeds of sale is up to you.

When I ran an auction house it's surprising how many people left things behind and forgot them, buyers and sellers. One chap left some stock for us to sell and was untraceable to pay out, about 2 years later he came in asking for his money, he'd been detained at Her Majesty's pleasure, so always worth keeping records of all transactions for any eventuality.
