Sold but buyer never collected

In March 2011 I sold a very large denby dinner set with tea set, caserole dishes etc on ebay. In total around 30 pieces. It was collection only. Lots of emails from buyer prior and after with dates when she thought she would come and collect it then nothing. No more contact. I have tried several times to contact her but no response.

She paid in full via paypal when she won. It is still sitting in my garage waiting for her to collect it.

How much longer do I have to wait. It has now been 15 months!!!

I think it's fair to say that she has forgotten all about it.

If I were you I would refund the Paypal payment and put it on eBay again. Free listing this weekend :)

By the way, for collection only items you should only accept cash. Otherwise a buyer might claim they didn't receive it and do a chargeback through Paypal, getting the item and their money back.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

I don't think Paypal will give the option to refund a payment from that long ago! Put the money in a little saving account and forget about it. When the buyer eventually asks for the money back, send a cheque and keep the interest!

If she has her e mail address she can send it back that way, unless by e mail OP meant eBay message.. Is she still trading on eBay - has she had feedback since? You might be able to get her contact details via eBay.

I would send her one more email saying if you do not collect by this date, I will resell it. No way would I refund her! Call it compensation for storing it for the last 15 months!
I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.
  • has there been any activity on her account?

Absolutely agree!!!!....If you left an item bought at auction on their premises..even if you had paid the hammer price in full they would charge storage..often up to £1 per day. I wouldn't even give it another thought just get it back on Ebay & resell it. Its ridiculous to think they would have expected you to keep it for them this long. Why go to the hassle of tracing such a numpty!
    :T2013...nothing..still hoping though!!

She may still turn up to collect it! My uncle sells bedding plants and hanging baskets from his front garden in the summer. Nearly two years ago a lady drove past, ordered and paid for four hanging baskets but never returned to collect them. He thought she may turn up last year so he kept the money on one side - no sign of her last year but she showed up last week and asked if he remembered her!

The same thing happened to me I listed a set of crockery that belongs to my mother on Gumtree a foreign lady phoned up, we only listed it for £10 for it but she said thats not enough and paid £20 via cheque instead!

She first of all said she was going to arrange a courier and then later said she was going to get a friend to come and collect... 2 months later we got tired of it sitting in the hallway awaiting collection so it was shoved in the garage. Still waiting...

buyers can be very strange sometimes!
