  • I was visited today by this company after the initial courtesy call and the convincing spiel about getting re banded, not just this house but a previous one I lived in for 20 years. I almost went ahead until the very polite and pretty lady told me it would be £330... better a bird in the hand, so glad I looked on here. one question though, can I try to claim overpayment myself froma previous address. they say you need a solicitor and a valuation doing to go ahead yourself in any case previous or current address. I will wait and see if there is anyone re banded in a few months time.

If a home you previously lived in has had its CT band reduced, and the band reduction is backdated to the time you were living there, you can ask for a refund of any overpayment of CT.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • Please DO NOT USE DALTON AND DALTON TAX CONSULTANTS. They know even before you/they contact yourself which areas (houses) can genuinely claim over paying of council tax based on the Banding of your house. Given this, they can, for a matter of around £200, make you believe you HAVE a case against your Council for over-payment due to incorrect banding, knowing fore well that you do not and the money is 'money for old rope'. They send out standard letters at quarterly intervals to indicate how the claim is progressing. The fist, to indicate that is taking longer than expected and the last one to tell you that you claim has not been successful. 2 Letters for just short of £200, not a bad pay day. Especially considering the con-artist who came to my house indicated he had signed-up (conned) a further 10 people that day. As other advice has been given go through the VALUATION OFFICE ONLY. Do not allow these COWBOYS to steal any more money!
  • I've had a phone call this morning from Dalton & Dalton saying my Band D property should be in Band C. The chap said they had a window available tomorrow for a free consultation. If I went ahead it would cost £162 payable by cheque. I would be owed a couple of thousand in a rebate.

I'm suspicious by nature and felt that if something sounds too good to be true then it generally is. I declined and searched for this company which brought me here. So pleased I did as it just looks to be another scam.
    Cheers,
    Ray.

See my post of Oct 2012 further up the thread, my MIL has still not had anything for her money or had it returned.
  • I was cold called a few days ago.Told me there was no way I'd ever understand the complicated forms to be filled in. Wanted £165.00 up front,(non refundable) plus 25% of anything recovered. Of course they're going to be heart broken if they're not successful...at £165.00 to fill in a form?!!!
    Their phone number is 0161 850 1993.

They'd be surprised how many people do understand the forms and can fill them in.

  • I went with Dalton and Dalton on the premise that they would definitely get my tax band changed from D to C. This would have resulted in a rebate in the region of £1K. They charged me over £300 for their service. According to the guy I spoke to, the money was already in the bag, and their service was just there to expedite and smooth over the bureaucratic service. After a few months they sent me a letter indicating that the VOA had indicated that I was in the correct banding. I sent several emails to them requesting my fee back but no replies. Subsequently I have looked at the VOA website and found that my banding has been ruled via a Court as 'C'. Obviously, I now have to go down the root of challenging my banding with the local council tax office. Why didn't D&D do all of this. As the Subject suggests they are either ... Liars/Incompetent/Thieves.

If your band has been determined by a Tribunal at Band C, you have little hope in challenging it.

    There is very little paperwork!

Either a simple letter or even a telephone call to the VOA.
