GMail chat on a mobile?

Hi, quick question.

When I sign in to my GMail account on my desktop PC, on the bottom left, I can select CHAT and then chat with my friends.... yet when I sign in using my mobile, I can't see the CHAT option anywhere and the GMail screen looks very sparse, I assume it's a version specifically made for viewing on a mobile.

Can you not access and use the chat option within GMail on a mobile?

Yeah it's not part of the mobile site. If your phone has the option to view the full site, it might work.

If your mobile is an Android one, you can just fire up the GTalk client instead.

It's not an Android one, it's a SAMSUNG WAVE Y (S5380D) running on BADA......

Gutted than I can't even get Google Talk on this Samsung which evidently is much better than the "Samsung Galaxy Y" on Android, but that has Talk... but a much worse resolution and clarity on screen.
