I can get one on contract for £31 per month inc 600mins and 1gb data - but am hesitating as it is more than current plan - am I right to hesitate and try to push further or should I be biting their arms off to get it at that price? Can get the S2 for same as current contract - what should I go for?

The cheapest I have found so far is £26 a month (3 months half price by redemption) and £30.30 cash back via topcashback. That's a choice of either...
1- 250mb 600mins
2- 750mb 300mins
3- 1.5GB 100 mins
As long as you use wi-fi to download the big files and just use the mobile network just for facebook updates and other similar low data needs then the first should be fine. That's with T-mobile purchased through mobiles.co.uk via top cashback or quidco.
However, I'd go for buying an unlocked unbranded one outright through Amazon or Ebay with an Ovivo Mobile sim which comes with 200mins 200texts and 512mb data for free every month (£5 for the sim). Over the limits it's 6p for every extra min/text/Mb.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Thank you, not in a position to buy outright at the moment - price quoted is with no additional costs for phone, over 24 months if I stay in usage limits means phone has only cost me £120 extra than current price plan - but as I say can have S2 at £26, makes me think would be mad not to take it? Seriously confusing myself lol0

So samsung galaxy s2 £26 times 24 less £200 cashback is £424 (EMC £17.66 per month)
Or samsung galaxy s3 £26 times 24 less £39 cashback is £585 (EMC £24.38 per month):footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Ask yourself what you can afford.
I see so many handsets I think I really want, the price is over and above anything I ever could though so it rules it out no matter how much I want it!
Think about how you'd feel in X months time when the newest and no doubt better model comes in yet you have XX months left to pay at £31 a month. Its going to irritate you right? And maybe whilst it feels OK to struggle to pay the bill right now because the handset is stunning, fantastic, amazing or whatever else but once the novelty wears off, are you happy to still be struggling to pay the bill when its been bettered by just about every other network offering out there?
Fact is, what can you afford matters much more then what you would like to afford. No handset however amazing is justification for not being able to eat at the end of each month!0 -

£31 x 24 is a big commitment. After all it's only a mobile phone.
I got the S2 around 6 months ago because it was the best for my budget after negotiating with o2. (£21.50)0 -
I am getting the S3 for free as an upgrade with all my mins and texts so its good for me. I was going to go with the iphone 4 s but i thought against it and went with the S30
