Thought it was a £30K car; looks to me like a £36K car? Todays £30K car would cost £27K if VAT were 8%

    WHAT?

    It's a £30,000 car ........ the TAX isn't a car!

Good grief, I'm surrounded by simpletons .... no wonder I can earn a packet when the alternatives are so daft ... long may it continue!

I don't know how to work out VAT cut, so forgive me if I appear stupid in this post.:o
To work out the savings from a VAT cut to 8% from 20% would it simply be a case of:

    £30,000/ 120 (100 being the base value, 20 the VAT) x 108 (100 is base value, 8 is the new VAT rate) = £27,000?

Is there another way to work it out?

You'll have to do a LOT better than that at an interview to get a job ..... a £30,000 car is a £30,000 car ...... VAT is VAT - it's different.

    Jeeeeeeez

Oh come on, you can earn £15k in a couple of days on your rate. What are you dithering for?

    £1750 a day x 2 days ISN'T £15,000 ....... the maths ability on here is mindbending.

£1750 x 13 days = £22,750 ... pay Corporation Tax and expenses and THEN I have £15,000 to play with.

I like coming on here, it reminds me of why I can command - and get paid - a decent wage ...... it also reminds me why we got into a Credit pickle - people just cannot work out numbers.

In which of your multiple universes does the average punter quote the price of a car minus the tax and use that as the basis of his calculations??

Since in your world the price of the car doesn't include tax, then the car itself is not cheaper at all by your argument, just that the tax is less. So your very first statement ie the car is cheaper is untrue, just the tax is reduced.

A car that costs £30K to buy today will not be cheaper by £3600, it will only be £3000 cheaper. A car that cost £36K to buy today will be £3600 cheaper. See, simple isn't it; to any normal consumer ie the ones who should be spending more, a £30K car is a car that costs £30K to buy.

You need to be more precise in your statements - I hope you are not a lawyer.
