    £3,600 cheaper!

3600 less tax and we are already suffering a budget which lacks taxes to pay for it:(

What they really need is less tax on production not consumption, the average brit has more debt then savings. We arent holding back anything if thats the case, the production must be sold to anyone who has savings which would be foreigners so VAT is of no concern.

The only thing I can think of is VAT varying across Europe. We may attract more foreign shoppers if we charged less.
That is a reasonable argument as it relates to free competetion.
If they do have money to spend that is, I guess they cant all be broke just the governments

You could be posting from your comfy prison cell (unless you're too busy on your prison supplied PS3 or watching Sky Sports in common room and your prison cell mate is actually posting on your behalf):D;)

  • I do think VAT should be lower as it happens, but if we were to adopt something like Simon Thorpe's Financial Transaction Tax, it could be zero, and so could all other taxes.

As a new poster, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to give links, but please have a look at Simon's blog at simonthorpesideas dot blogspot.co.uk

(I'm not Simon Thorpe, BTW - I only wish I were as clever as he is).

Although he thought of it himself (along with many other ideas), he later discovered that someone else had come up with a very similar idea some years earlier, and he gives him full credit. That one is the automated payment transaction tax by Dr Edgar Feige.
