email addresses based at your ISP are an issue if you change your provider
"tutor said that if you send out a job application or CV using yahoo or hotmail etc it is likely to go straight into the prospective employer's spam folder."
guessing they had no evidence for this
spam systems are actually quite advanced, they assess the content of an email, not just the senders email address0 -
Just as an example; I would often use my personal email account (gmail) to bounce emails around the company, to people of all skill levels & offices up & down the country with different IT depts.
Most of these will likely have left all filters & such to the defaults & I never had any missed email problems, so imo it's certainly not a case of if it ends with "gmail.com" or whatever, then it'll get spam-flagged.
Admittedly, this was under gharsterly Lotus, but still, if an "all gmail adresses" filter was needed IT could have set it up.0 -
I also think the tutor was guessing rather than going by empirical evidence (not a vary academic thing to do), there are so many people using yahoo and hotmail addresses then any system that filtered simply on that basis would be a very poorly designed one. If you are still concerned about it then you could stay with Yahoo and set up a ymail.com address rather than yahoo.com or yahoo.co.uk.0
