A few iphone 4S questions

Hi all

I'm a complete novice at smartphones but I'd like an Iphone 4S mainly for
  • surfing net away from home.
  • watching movies on netflix/lovefilm.
  • having access to google maps or mapping software to use on the bike (so I don't get lost as much) Don't want a TomTom or attached to bike satnav just something in my pocket to look up where I am
  • filming my dog doing daft things.
Anyway I currently have unlimited broadband at home with BT but I'm lost as to what kind of deal I need for the phone. The movies take up a lot of MB in fact I had to switch to unlimited when I signed up to netflix as I nearly went over my usage a few times and had to limit what I was watching.

I'm not looking for the most amazing cheap deal but just one where I'm covered for the stuff I want to do.

Any help grateful received. I desperately want an iphone.

Thanks
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

Peace, love and labradors!

On the above things you mentioned all smartphones can do that...

But as you say you desperately want an iphone...

The question I would ask how much can you afford per month?
Can afford to pay for a phone upfront upto £500?

The answer to the above questions will dictate whether you can afford an iphone and what deal you can get.

I have a IPhone 4S on 3 they allowed me 2000 min 5000 txts and unlimited internet plus a further 2000 mins to other 3 users for quite a good price.

I have the 16gb one and that was £100 then £35 a month after.

If you are going to be using the internet a lot this would be a good idea.

Also you can hook the IPhone up to your wireless at home and use and this allowence (not as complicated as it sounds honest)

Hope this helps I love my IPhone and was worth every penny IMHO :T

Thanks Owen - it isn't the money and whether I can afford it. It is which tariff to get so that I can do the stuff I mentioned in my bullet points above.

I have unlimited broadband with BT via home hub so if I just bought a phone on its own from apple then will I be able to use it around the UK with my existing broadband package? Or should I go for a contract with internet included. But then I don't know how much internet I need so I don't know which contract would be best.

Guess I was looking for someone to say "OK I do all the things you want to do with my iphone and I have x contract" . Or for another unlimted BT broadband user to say - " You're covered with the BT broadband you already have due to BT wifi spots or whatever they are called"

I know what I'm doing with home broadband just never had internet on any phone so I don't know what I need iyswim.

Yes - like iPod - without phone functions.
Or should I go for a contract with internet included.
Yes - if you want to use it outside. It doesn't have to be a contract. Giffgaff PAYG is very popular for mobile internet.
But then I don't know how much internet I need so I don't know which contract would be best.
Unlimited - if you want to stream movies. You don't need unlimited if you can download movies at home (don't know how netflix/lovefilm work). Beware that even 'unlimited' tariffs often limit downloading and streaming.

Although it is down to each individual, web surfing on small phone screen is not nice experience. You can buy a cheaper smartphone and buy an iPad. Then you can use the phone as WiFi hotspot and use iPad's larger screen for web surfing. Most smart phones can work as WiFi hotspots.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Ok, so you got no problems affording it...
but not throw a banana skin but if you are going to watch films
it would make sense to watch it on a bigger screen

I don't think you will get the best experience out of a 3.5" screen.

But if happy with that then check out the 3 website as they offer truly unlimited data on 'the one' price plan

If your buying the phone from Apple, you'll need an unlimited sim only. If you want to watch netflix outside of the house you'll probably need to get the Full Monty Sim only on T-Mobile or one of the All you can eat data plans on Three.

Honeydog I use my Iphone to watch BBC Iplayer ect yes the screen is small but tbh you get use to it and it's handy if you use buses ect a lot like I do as you can watch stuff on the move.

I have an IPad too but I bearly use it (OH brought it for me for Xmas and it was a complete waste of £600) it's too bulky my Iphone does eveything just in a small space :)

I would recommend you got to a shop and ask to show what video quality is like on an iphone 4s and a galaxy s3 or even the galaxy s2.

If the smaller screen is a problem but still want iphone then the moneysaving
reply is wait till October for IP5
