Transfering from old i-Pod to PC/CD/Mem Stick

Options
I have one really ancient i-pod (the one almost the size of an i-phone !) - so old it will not work on modern docking systems. BUT it has loads of songs/tunes etc that would take so long to reproduce even if the material was available to put on it. Is there ANY way that I can transfer the contents on to either the PC or CD or a Memory Stick ? Help Please - thannks

Go to the iPod wiki, figure out exactly which model you have, go onto eBay and buy appropriate cable, load iTunes (or a better third-party equivalent) onto your PC, connect up and copy the music off.

Possibilities: Don't bother with iTunes - I've heard it has a tendency to wipe newly connected devices at the slightest provocation.

Since the normal modus operandi for iTunes is for the PC to be the master, the iPod the slave, and since the Sync operation routinely works one way - PC to iPod, could you be more specific about how you propose the OP does this?

I confess that last time I did this (for my sister - I don't personally own any Apple products) I did ~not~ use iTunes, but one of the many better third-party alternatives, but it was some time ago now and I can't recall which one I used.

I guess that's another reason not to use iTunes if you can help it...

As tanglefoot said use sharepod, its a free download and has the option to back up ipod to pc. I only use sharepod now and have deleted itunes off my. Watch out when you open sharepod and plug in the ipod as itunes will try to open dont let it.
