Go to all sites which have your password and change them. Scan computer with antivirus, malware bytes etc.

I am getting SPAM addressed to myself, to an email address only used by myself for MSE (which I do use) & Facebook (which I don't use) notifications.

That doesnt make sense, you are getting spam emails addressed to yourself (obviously as otherwise you wouldnt be getting the email?)

'to an email address', you mean from an email address?

Even so, as said above what is your question/point??

For the hard of thinking, his point is that either MSE or Facebook have divulged his email address (wittingly or unwittingly) to a third party.

As someone mentioned, it could be a trojan but a loose email address is extremely unlikely to be the only symptom of that.

Last year there was a huge data leak from MSE as I remember - your post makes perfect sense in that context.

Correct - I reported it and got an e-mail saying they were investigating. I still get the odd one or two addressed to my MSE address.
I had a similar problem with Cunard, they eventually admitted that it did appear that some one had hacked their system and harvested lots of email addresses.

    Thanks, that explains a lot.

I wondered where they got my name from, as well as my email address.

Of course, all deleted, not opened.

    Thanks for clarifying that.

how does MSE have your name or do you mean it was addressed to Saver0811?
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

On the contrary, it makes perfect sense . An email address used only for MSE receives SPAM addressed to the OP by name.

if it was randomly generated email spam they wouldn't have the OP's name would they? Just the address.
  • On here I am just known as TILAMS. This is because I like the annonymity. It does not have my real name, Jenny! It does however know where I post from for obvious reasons and could trace mybemail address to me.

If I am a betting person, I woulkd be more afraid of the likes of Google, Facebuck. Good points in the Sunday Times about this!

  • I suggest tat OP gets a decent spam filter, because no amount of twiddling about will stop spam. Once an address is live and in the public domain, it is that priced against the persons gullibility level.

In order to sift emails, I treat them as follows:

    I know you
I do not know you, but

WHO THE FINITTINGLY ELL IS YOU.

Those in the later group get deleted without cause. And if it was real, they will of course ring in again.
