I'm on tesco mobile 1 month rolling contract and I've just got an iphone.

I previously had two features on my android device:

1. I could create a personal hotspot to tether a pc/tablet etc

2. I could connect and use BT wifi which is free for BT broadband customers.

Neither works with the iphone yet both work fine with the tesco sim in an Android handset.

Conversely put a non-tesco sim in the iphone and it works.

Do those !!!!!!s at tesco mobile now block these functions unless you pay more for their iphone sim?

Anyone else come across this?

The tethering feature on iPhone has to be enabled by the network, unlike on Android, where it's done via a separate app, or in the settings (depending on the version). Using the iPhone's hotspot setting causes the iPhone to check with the network whether it's enabled, I think, and if it's not, it doesn't activate. It can happen with any network.

No idea why the wifi doesn't work, because that's entirely separate to your mobile tariff.

I think your case with the wifi is that your BT account that came with your sim is locked to your old phone, and needs reset to allow you to use it on your iPhone. I've had a similar thing happen when I've upgraded my phone. A quick call to Tesco mobile and explain the BT wifi isn't working and they should send a form to 'reset the mac address.' if I remember it took about 24 hours then I started being able to use the wifi again.

This doesnt make any sense. I am seperately a BT broadband customer and a tesco mobile customer. In other words my BT account has nothing to do with my tesco mobile sim. There is nothing locked to my old phone because I dont have an old phone... I am on a tesco sim only contract and free to use any unlocked phone.

Tesco do not permit tethering which is why you can't set it up on an Iphone.

The phone can do it, but Tesco do not permit it so it's not visible to you.
